Kostas Lazarides (born April 14, 1949) is a Greek-born American country music songwriter best known as Kostas.

He has written for many country music artists, including Dwight Yoakam, Patty Loveless, George Strait, and Travis Tritt, and has received eleven awards from Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI).

Musical career

Throughout the 1980s, Kostas appeared in Montana as a singer and songwriter. He was eventually discovered by recording artist Tony Brown, who was looking for new material for country singer Patty Loveless. "Timber, I'm Falling in Love," Kostas' first cut as a songwriter was released by Loveless in 1989; it debuted as a single on Billboard country charts, becoming Loveless' first number one hit. "The Lonely Side of Love" (1989), "On Down the Line" (1990), and "Blame It On Your Heart" (1993) will all be released as singles. "Blame It on Your Heart" received the BMI's Robert J. Burton award for being the most performed single of 1994.

Dwight Yoakam's 1990 album If There Was a Way featured many songs by Kostas, including "Nothing's Changed Here," "Turn It On," Turn It Up, Turn Me Loose," and "Send a Message to My Heart," a duet with Loveless). This Time, Yoakam's 1993 album, This Time, included another song co-written by Kostas: "Ain't That Lonely Yet" and earned Yoakam an Oscar for Best Country Vocal Performance - Male. Kostas also wrote singles for McBride & the Ride, Travis Tritt, Holly Dunn, Martina McBride, and The Mavericks during the 1990s.

Prairie Oyster, a Grammy Award-winning Canadian country music group, released songs written by Kostas on two of their most famous albums. As a result, Kostas built a large fanbase in Canada, which has helped him to tour and perform in multiple provinces.

On First American Records in 1980, Kostas released a self-titled album.

Kostas first signed to Liberty Records as a recording artist in 1994. This year, the XS in Moderation was announced. Liberty's collection of songwriters featured his own interpretations of the singles he had written.
