A passenger train and a freight train collided (main) in Larissa's central city, and a third carriage was engulfed in fires as hot as 1300 degrees C, during a journey marred by years of safety warnings. The fire department had earlier raised the death toll to 38, reporting that 57 people were already hospitalized, six of whom were in intensive care, while others were missing. 'Everything shows that the tragedy was caused mainly due to a human mistake,' Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis (inset) said in a televised address.' A station master from the area of the accident was arrested, but transportation minister Kostas Karamanlis (pictured right at the scene) resigned.
