Konstantin Scherbakov (11 June 1963 in Barnaul, Siberia, Russian SFSR) is a Russian pianist. * In 1983, he was the champion of the first Rachmaninoff international piano competition. * In 1990, he appeared in four recitals at the Chamber Music Festival in Asolo, beginning his international career. Scherbakov's Piano Concertos, the nine Beethoven symphonies (as transcribed for the piano by Liszt), and music by Tchaikovsky, Medtner, Shostakovich, and Lyapunov are among his albums on Naxos Records; among his CDs on his label are recordings of all Tchaikovsky's Piano Concertos, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concertos, Respighi, * Critical acclaim has been high; Gramophone magazine has said that Scherbakov plays with "delicacy and love," and the German Critics' Circle has twice awarded Scherbakov's top prize, one for a recording of Godowsky's Sonata in E minor and the other for a rare interpretation of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony by Franz Liszt.
