Kim Kataguiri Career

Political career

Kataguiri's involvement in politics started in August 2013, when he was 17 years old. Brazil's "popular cash transfer scheme, which has been lauded by many experts around the world, was responsible for the growth of Brazil's middle class and the liberation of millions of people from poverty in the last decade," his instructor said in a history class at his college in So Paulo state. Kataguiri was not sure: "That just looked wrong." While the family allowance may be necessary, it has flaws and was one of the key reasons for our rising economic growth: the commodities boom and our closeness with China." He was also struck by how his peers readily accepted Brazil's state capitalism model as followed by the ruling Workers' Party. Kataguiri posted a video on YouTube, rather than responding to his teacher in class, which went viral. "I knew I could use the internet to protect free market values," Kataguiri said. He posted more satirical videos on YouTube, which attracted millions of viewers as Brazil fell into stagnation and political uncertainty.

"A libertarian group that espouses free-market values," Kataguiri began the Free Brazil Movement, which "an libertarian group that espouses free-market values." The first step of the campaign was to prosecute Dilma Rousseff, Brazil's former president, for her inability to combat corruption in Petrobras, the state-owned oil and gas corporation. Kataguiri describes the Workers' Party as "the enemy of freedom and democracy." Kataguiri says the movement's larger objectives are to "liberate the state." We need less tax, less bureaucracy, and privatization of all public enterprises." More than a million Brazilians attended anti-Roussef demonstrations around the region on March 15, 2015. Kataguiri, 200,000 protesters in the city's biggest demonstration in a decade, attracted 200,000 protesters.

Kataguiri was selected as one of the most influential teenagers of 2015 by Time magazine in October 2015.

Kataguiri was elected to the federal Chamber of Deputies for the state of So Paulo in the 2018 general election. He came fourth in his state, receiving 465,310 votes, finishing fourth overall, and fourth most voted among all candidates.

Kataguiri switched his political party to Podemos in January 2022 in order to promote Sergio Moro's run for president in the 2022 Brazilian general election. Kataguiri changed his political affiliation to Unio Brasil in the aftermath of fellow Free Brazil Movement politician Arthur do Val's sexist remarks while on a trip to Ukraine in early-March 2022.
