Early years
Kike Santander was born in Santiago de Cali, Colombia, on May 11, 1960, and he was raised in La Flora, a typical upper-middle-class neighborhood of Cali. Musical career
He came from Bogotá, where he performed as a jazz bassist and wrote his first song, "El jardn de mis amores" (The garden of my dreams), at age 33, which was dedicated to his parents. Bernardo Ossa, the promoter who introduced him to the "big leagues" of advertising companies, spent his time and effort to write and produce commercial jingles, discovering how to make melodies that could be recalled. He gained the respect of the media companies in which he was the leading figure in this sector thanks to his hard work. In the nine years he worked in commercial jingles, Santander wrote and produced over 1500 jingles.
He met Colombian musician Estéfano, who pleaded with him on an album for José Luis Rodro's "El Puma" (Dear God Holy).
