Khairul Azman Mohamed Life

Mohammed Khairul Azman (born 5 March 1968) is a former Malaysian footballer who served as a goalkeeper for Pahang, Sabah, and Malaysia's national football team.

Life after retirement

Khairul and his child now live in Penampang with their wife Khairiah alias Caren John Bion. Khairul is currently unemployed and solely dependent on the Social Security Organisation's monthly pension of RM540. His right knee does not have any ligaments, tendon, or meniscus, the key limbs linking them. His left knee is missing ligaments and tendon. He has stated that he could not afford the RM16,000 needed for the surgery to do tendon or ligament replacements. In an interview with New Straits Times, he said, "If I can have this surgery, I want to return to teaching or even contribute to sports growth in whatever way." I'd encourage young athletes to take care of their health rather than ending up like me."

Khairul Azman Mohamed Career

Career

In 1985, Khairul began his football career with the Pahang youth team. He was only seventeen years old at the time, and he was the best youth goalkeeper for Pahang. His stellar results with the Pahang youth team earned him to represent Malaysia at the ASEAN School Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia. He was then selected to be part of Pahang FA's senior squad during the 1985 season.

He was selected to be a member of Malaysia's national football team in 1991. His memorable international games include a match against England's national football team, where Malaysia lost 2–4 to the world giant. After helping Malaysia beat South Korea 3–1 at the 1993 Merdeka Tournament, 1993, he clinched his first international title. During his time with the national team, Khairul said the Saudi Arabian forward Khalid al-Muwalid was his most feared player in the international arena, according to Khairul, who played for the Saudi Arabian forwards during the 1994 FIFA World Cup qualifiers (AFC). Alistair Edwards of Johor FA in the Malaysian League was also concerned about him.

He helped Tok Gajah win 1992 Malaysia Cup and runners-up during 1994 and 1995 Malaysia Cups during his time in Pahang. After the 1995 season ended without winning any gold, he moved to Sabah FA, East Malaysia.

He had a lot of success with the Rhinos during his time with Sabah FA. In his first season with Sabah, he won the Malaysian FA Cup. He aided Sabah in their first Malaysian League title at the 1996 season and then took them to their first Malaysia Cup final in the country. Sabah eventually lost their first final to Selangor by penalties, but the outstanding results earned him the Best Player award in the 1996 Malaysia Cup. He was later selected to represent Malaysia in the 1996 Tiger Cup. After losing 1–0 to Thailand, he helped the Malaysian national football team finish second.

He was also a member of Malaysia's national futsal team and was a member of the 1996 FIFA Futsal World Championship in Spain.

He helped Sabah advance to their second and third finals in 2002 and 2003. However, he failed to help Sabah clinch the Malaysia Cup trophy after losing 1–0 to Selangor in 2002 and 3–0 to Selangor MPPJ FC in 2003. Since he didn't recover from an injury, he officially pulled out from football during the 2005 season.

Coaching career

After retiring from playing football, Khairul Azman decided to become a goalkeeper coach. He served as a Sabah FA goalkeeper coach for four years and saw a lot of talent, including Sabah's new goalkeeper Irwan Jamil. Awal Taham, Sabah's new senior team goalkeeper coach, was swapped for him this season.

In 2013, he moved to Darul Takzim FC to become their new goalkeepers' coach.
