Kenny Albert Life

Kenneth Gary Albert (born February 2, 1968) is an American sportscaster, the nephew of sportscaster Marv Albert and the uncle of sportscasters Al Albert and Steve Albert.

He is the only sportscaster in history to play all four major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL).

Early life

Albert's parents gave him a tape recorder for his fifth birthday in order to practice his broadcasting. On his sixth birthday in 1974, his father brought him along to a New York Rangers game. One of the statisticians had to leave in the middle of the game, so Albert had to do the stats for the remainder of the game. On the radio, he became the Rangers' official statistician at 14 years old. He created material for the Rangers program at 16 years old. Jim Robson, a Vancouver Canucks play-by-play broadcaster, was his favorite aside from his father. Albert, who grew up in Sands Point, covered high school sports for the Port Washington News, a Sands Point newspaper.

Albert earned a degree in broadcasting and journalism from New York University in 1990. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Albert spent time at WNYU radio in the sports department. When working there, he was able to get to his quick responses when announcing local games.

Personal life

Albert and his wife Barbara (Wolf) and their two children, Amanda and Sydney, live in New Jersey. Albert's wife was introduced to his wife by close friend and Baltimore sports reporter Jerry Coleman.

Albert has often referred to his love of all sports, but mostly hockey and basketball. He and his wife are members of the San Jose Sparklers' WNBA team, and has cited baseball as the most difficult sport to write about.
