CRAIG BROWN: Douglas Bader, the first celebrity to meet in the United Kingdom, was the first celebrity I ever met. Today, he is rather a forgotten figure, but ten years ago, he was as popular as can be. Reach For The Sky, a biography of him, was the most well-selling book of its day, and the film starring Kenneth More won the Bafta for best British film a few years ago. Bader had lost both legs in a flying crash in 1931, but he was unstoppable and flew with the RAF in World War II, knocking down 20 enemy planes in two years.

According to the sheet of dos and don'ts I was given as I left hospital, sexual activity demands no more effort than when scaling a flight of stairs.' But what if I lived in a bungalow? And what if I don't have a partner or a willing partner? There are other items to be concerned about.
