Kelly Bires Career

Early career

Bires began karting at Sugar River Raceway in Brodhead, Wisconsin, at the age of 9, and began participating in national karting competitions at age 12. He has won numerous regional titles and two national championships.

In 2000, he was named the Great Lakes Allison Legacy Series Rookie of the Year, and in 2001, he followed up the title by winning the series. Bires then moved to the Super Late Model race cars at Dells Motor Speedway, finishing fifth in points and named 2002 Rookie of the Year. He came in second second in championship points the year after. In May 2004, Bires made his first appearance in ARCA. He joined veteran American Speed Association Late Model Series crew Howie Lettow in 2006 and captured the season championship that year.

NASCAR career

Bires was the pilot of the #21 Wood Brothers Racing truck in 19 races in 2007, handing over driving responsibility for the remaining six races to veteran Mark Martin. At Atlanta, he finished in tenth place. Bires left the Truck Series and started racing for Tad Geschickter, following Jon Wood's departure due to sickness. In the Meijer 300 presented by Oreo racing at Kentucky Speedway, his best Busch Series start was 26th and his highest finish was seventh. Bires had six top-ten finishes en route to a 13th-place points finish, with named the permanent driver of the #47 vehicle in 2008. However, with Clorox/Kingsford joining Marcos Ambrose in the Sprint Cup Series, he was left homeless due to a lack of funding at the end of the season.

Bires spent the 2009 season racing for many organizations, including Braun Racing, MSRP Motorsports, and JTG, where he started and parked, as well as competing for Kevin Harvick Incorporated and CJM Racing. His best finish of the year came at Iowa Speedway, where he finished fifth in Braun's Fraternal Order of Eagles Toyota. Bires also finished in tenth place for KHI in Nashville, finishing in 10th place. Bires signed a two-year contract to drive for JR Motorsports in the #88 Chevy from 2011 to 2011, with Earnhardt eager to see what Bires could do with his equipment. At Homestead, Bires rode the #5 Ragu Chevy for Junior in preparation for going full-time in 2010.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., a sponsor of Unilever and their Hellmann's Mayonnaise brand, owned the #88 vehicle in Daytona, California, causing Bires to miss out due to her sponsorship obligations. www.google.com He did finish seventh in his first appearance at Fontana. Even more surprising than his missing Daytona was when Bires was withdrawn from the #88 car in favour of Cup driver Jamie McMurray after only five races, with only one finishing below 17th (a Las Vegas crash). Bires, JR Motorsports' leadership, and the team's including Tony Eury Sr. and Jr., Jr., argued that Bires would take a seat from "the next Brad [Keselowski]. The team had also released Mark McFarland in 2006 after 21 races and Shane Huffman in 2007 after 18 races before Brad Keselowski. Bires rejoined Richmond's #10, where he finished 11th, then ran for Baker-Curb Racing, Team Rensi Motorsports, and RAB Racing.

In 2011, Bires returned to the Nationwide Series, albeit with Rensi. Bires had to start and park his #25 on several occasions, and he was barred from two races. Bires was recruited by Joe Gibbs Racing to drive their #18 Toyota in Richmond and Chicagoland after Rensi slowed its schedule. In Go Green Racing's 04 car, Bires also ran two races as a start and park.

In 2012, Bires attempted six races in the Sprint Cup Series, winning three races but not placing better than 38th. In November, Bires was banned from both the Cup and Nationwide rides.

Bires was crew chief for Matt Kenseth's late model team, Ross Kenseth.
