Kel Johari Rice Mitchell (born August 25, 1978) is an American actor, stand-up comedian, singer, and rapper.
He is best known for his role as the Invisible Boy in the 1999 Ben Stiller and Geoffrey Rush superhero film Mystery Men, his portrayal of Kel Kimble on the Nickelodeon sitcom "Good Burger" as the voice of Dutch in the Disney XD cartoon Motor City and as Ray in the 2006 sequel to Like Mike 2: Streetball.
Double G on the Nickelodeon show Game Shakers also appeared.
On the 28th season of Dancing with the Stars, Kel was ranked 2nd alongside his partner Witney Carson.
Early life
Kel Mitchell was born in Chicago, Illinois, and is from the South Side. He attended Chicago Vocational High School and attended drama classes at the ETA Creative Arts Foundation. Kenyatta and Kyra are his two sisters.
Personal life
Mitchell was married to Tyisha Hampton from 1999 to 2005, but they divorced in 2005. They have two children together, a son named Lyric Mitchell and a daughter Allure Mitchell. Tyisha Mitchell started his career by assisting with KVL (Kel Videos Live, and Ganked), a series that she wrote and produced for Kel.
On February 25, 2012, Mitchell married rapper Asia Lee. They have two children together, a daughter born in July 2017 and a son born in October 2020.
In 2016, Mitchell and Lee were given an award by the Carson Black Chamber for their performance The Back House Party. He is the spokesperson for the Black College Expo.
He is a convert to Christianity. He began serving as a youth pastor at Spirit Food Christian Center in Winnetka, Los Angeles, in December.
Career
Mitchell began his acting career with Kenan Thompson at the age of 15, as part of the Nickelodeon comedy sketch series All That (1994 to 1999). Thompson and Thompson appeared on Kenan & Kel from 1996 to 2000. They appeared in Good Burger, a 1997 film that grew out of one of Mitchell's sketches from All That. The two pair appeared together in an episode of Sister, Sister with Tia and Tamera Mowry, four episodes of The Steve Harvey Show, as well as in a special two-part episode of Cousin Skeeter. They were also included in an episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.
Mitchell performed T-Bone, a mild-mannered and amusing dog in the children's cartoon series Clifford the Big Red Dog, from 2000 to 2003, outside of his collaborations with Kenan Thompson. In addition, he appeared in the 2004 Kanye West music video "All Falls Down" as a valet. Mitchell co-hosted Dance 360 with Fredro Starr; the show lasted just one season. Mitchell starred Manny Sellers in BET's latest series Take the Cake from 2005 to 2006. Honeydripper and Mystery Men are two of his other films.
In 2003, he auditioned for Saturday Night Live but lost to Kenan & Kel co-star Kenan Thompson. Mitchell was the subject of a murder probe in 2006 as a rumor was disseminated around Myspace.
In March 2008, he directed his debut writing and producing film, Dance Fu, in which he also appeared as the lead actor. Mitchell appeared in two Detroit-based stage productions, Affairs and Laundromat, the former written by Carlos Faison and also starred comedian Buddy Lewis, Leanne "Lelee" Lyons of R&B band R&B, a writer and stage actor, and singer Lauren "Lexxi" Alexis, as well as singer and actress Lauren "Lexxi" Alexis. Mitchell was a part of G4's Attack of the Show!, playing many characters. Curious George, the PBS Kids show, has him on several occasions.
Mitchell attended the 2011 Comikaze Expo with several members of his All That cast members, as well as at New York Comic-Con in 2015 and filming segments for the show's 22nd anniversary of The Splat in April 2016.
