Personal life
Kahlil Felder Sr, Felder's father, played basketball at Eastern Michigan from 1990 to 1992. Felder is also the younger cousin of NBA player Steve Smith.
High school career
Felder attended Pershing High School in Detroit, Michigan, where he was named Public School League MVP for his senior season. In Mr. Basketball of Michigan voting, he finished fourth in his senior year.
He was not heavily recruited by high-major colleges, and Oakland assistant coach Saddi Washington caught him. Felder was also recruited by Akron, Southern Illinois, and St. Bonaventure. Felder received a scholarship as a freshman, but he didn't commit until his senior season. Oakland did not recruit a point guard the season before he arrived, so Felder knew there would be no competition.
College career
Felder was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year in 2013–2014. Felder finished second in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 2014–15, two assists behind second place, Jalan West of Northwestern State. He was also a finalist for the Lou Henson Award, which is given to the "Mid-Major Player of the Year" in the United States.
Felder was consistently rated as an NBA candidate as a teenager in 2015-16, with professional scouts having attended Oakland's games. In December, when playing against Washington, then-No. 1 Michigan State, then No. 2, and then No. Felder, a footballer from 5 Virginia, averaged 35 points, 7 assists, and met 59% of his field goals. Oakland led at halftime of each of those games, beating Washington but losing to Michigan State and Virginia. In a 99–93 overtime loss at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Felder scored 37 points with nine assists against Michigan State.
Felder was selected a top-five finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given to the best male point guard in Division I. He was also named the recipient of the Lute Olson Award, which is given each year to the best non-freshman college basketball player in NCAA Division I. He was selected for the Naismith College Player of the Year in the mid-season.

Professional career
Felder, a 5-foot-9-inch (1.75 cm) in the 2016 NBA Draft Combine, tied for the second-highest maximum vertical leap ever recorded in draft combine history at 44 inches (110 cm). Despite his high success in the draft combine, Felder was still considered a late second round draft pick, with the possibility that he might not be drafted at all. Felder was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 54th overall pick. He was later traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers on draft night and then rejoined the Cavaliers in July 2016 for the NBA Summer League. He agreed to a three-year, $2.4 million deal with the Cavaliers on August 6, 2016. In a 105–99 victory over the Orlando Magic, he made his Cavaliers debut in their third game of the season, scoring two points off the bench for two minutes off the bench. Felder scored a season-high 14 in 23 minutes against the Memphis Grizzlies on December 14, with Kyrie Irving resting. He had multiple stints with the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League during his rookie season.
Felder was sold by the Atlanta Hawks, alongside Richard Jefferson, two potential second-round draft picks, and cash considerations, in exchange for the rights to Sergiy Gladyr and Dimitrios Agravanis. The Hawks had him waived right away.
Felder was ruled out of waivers by the Chicago Bulls on October 16, 2017. On December 19, 2017, he was waived by the Bulls. He appeared in 14 games for Chicago and averaged 3.9 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 9.6 minutes. He has appeared in three games for the Windy City Bulls and averaged 17.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, while shooting 45.2 percent from the field (19-of-42).
Felder signed a two-way contract with the Detroit Pistons on January 15, splitting his time between the Pistons and their NBA G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive.
Felder joined the Toronto Raptors on August 21, 2018. Felder was suspended by the Raptors on October 12, 2018, just before the regular season. He was later added to the Raptors' G League affiliate, the Raptors 905. Felder was waived by the Raptors 905.
