Karem Mahmoud Life

Karem Mahmoud (March 16, 1922 – January 15, 1995), also known as the Melodious Knight, was a well-known Egyptian singer and actor.

He was also popular in the Arab world. Karem was born in Damanhur, el-Buhayrah Governorate, northern Egypt, 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Alexandria, on March 16, 1922. Karem accompanied his elder brother Mohammed in performing religious verses as a child, further developing his ability for performing Arabic poetry with precise pronunciation and phonetic discipline. Even at elementary school, Karem's teachers praised his vocal voice, and by the time he was seven years old, he had mastered Sayed Darwish and Mohammed Abdel Wahab's intricate songs. Despite his youth, Karem was admitted to the Institute of Arabic Music in Cairo as a child.

Karem was taught by some of Egypt's best, including Fouad Mahfouz, Darwish el-Hariri, Sheikh Badawi, composer Safar Ali, and oudist Hassan Gharib. He received the highest grades ever in graduating from the Institute, earning an unprecedented distinction. Karem Mahmoud began to work as both a singer and actor. Karem died in London's intensive care unit on January 15, 1995.

"Please protect my vocal cords throughout the procedure," his doctor said before surgery: "Please be sure you are monitoring my vocal cords throughout the procedure." He was supported by his wife and two children.
