Life and career
Kad Merad was born in Sidi Bel Abbès, Algeria, on March 27th, 1964, to an Algerian father and a French mother.
He played drums and performed with various rock bands during his youth. He joined Club Med shortly after and began to play with the Gigolo Brothers troupe.
He was recruited by Ou FM, the Paris rock radio station where he first encountered Olivier Baroux in 1990. The duet most well-known as Kad & Olivier began collaborating and launching the Rock'n Roll Circus, displaying some of their most popular sketches (Pamela Rose, Teddy Porc Fidèle...) They were able to meet Jean-Luc Delarue, who brought their act to television, thanks to the show's early success.
They first appeared on La Grosse Emission, France's own television station, in 1999. Merad began his Cinema career with a number of minor roles.
He achieved his first box-office success with Mais Qui a Pamela Rose, co-written with Baroux in 2003.
Kad received the César Award for his role in Je vais Bien, but ne t'en fais pas! And appears in AaRON's film soundtrack video clip. Dany Boon was his best challenger. This friendly war between the two of them was a running joke during Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis.
He made his first appearance with Les Enfoirés' music troupe in 2006 and is now one of the group's founders. He was also inducted as the Telethon's Godfather.
In the French film Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis, he appeared as Phillipe Abrams the next year. With 21 million moviegoers, the film was a surprise - and spectacular - success in France and Europe, becoming France's best-attended film ever made.
