Like Me, My Windrush Grandparents Are Loving Beyoncé's Step Into Country Music

www.popsugar.co.uk, April 3, 2024
It's Good Friday, and my family and I are all together at my grandparents for our annual fish dinner. Our gatherings are often brimming with delicious food, laughter, and great music. I can hear the faint sounds of country music playing from their record player as I step into the living room. I usually see my grandad quietly humming and swaying along as the tunes were played. Justin Moore, my grandad, has adored country music for as long as I can recall. Along Soca and Reggae, the genre has pretty much always been the soundtrack to their Caribbean household. I was pleasantly surprised when I first discovered my love for country music as a youth, but as I grew up, I learned that the Windrush Generation — the Caribbean community that settled in the United Kingdom from 1948-1971 — has deep ties to country music.

They carried with them not only the excitement of conference glory, but also the challenge of surviving and reaching March Madness. Both teams have been firmly placed on the bubble, with this tournament at Madison Square Garden being the last chance for them to win and show to the selection committee that they belong in the field of 68. Providence was able to get the job done early in the night, beating the third-seed Creighton Bluejays and possibly bursting the rest of the NCAA Tournament bubble with a 78-73 victory to advance to the Big East Tournament semifinals.

Allie and Steve, who requested to go by their first names only, told Business Insider that they had been with the company for years, and that the company's generous parental leave was one of the company's most popular attractions. Allie and the couple had their first child in fall 2022 when Allie went on eight months of parental leave. Steve took two months in late 2022 and a new two in March. They found out on Friday that they had both been released.
