Julius Genachowski Life

Julius Genachowski, an American lawyer and businessman, was born on August 19, 1962.

Early life and education

Genachowski was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and grew up in Great Neck, New York, the son of Adele and Azriel Genachowski. He studied in Israel and attended yeshiva. He began attending Columbia College of Columbia University as a pre-med student, but the school's Bachelor of Arts in History (1985) lauded. He was an editor of the Columbia Daily Spectator. After serving in Washington, D.C., for former New York Congressman Chuck Schumer, he entered Harvard Law School and graduated with a Juris Doctor (1991), also lauded by magna cum laude. When his classmate Barack Obama was its president, he was a Notes Editor at the Harvard Law Review. On the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Genachowski clerked for The Honorable Abner J. Mikva. Justice William J. Brennan and David Souter, then, served on the Circuit and then the United States Supreme Court.

Personal life

His parents are Eastern European Jews who survived the Holocaust. Menachem Genack, his cousin, is an Orthodox rabbi and the CEO of the Orthodox Union Kosher Division. He was previously married to Rachel Goslins and Martha Raddatz, a writer from the University of Massachusetts.

President Barack Obama had chosen Genachowski to lead the US delegation on the 65th anniversary of Auschwitz's liberation.
