IN THE NIC OF TIME ... Kuhn snatches vital points for Celtic with just minutes remaining in Dingwall
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 6, 2024
From the Yellow Wall in Dortmund to a Highland Wall in Dingwall, there were bound to be a few mental scars for the Celtic players to overcome ahead of this Premiership clash with Ross County. Such was the scale of their humiliation in a 7-1 Champions League thrashing in Germany last Tuesday, plenty of soul-searching was inevitable in the days which followed. Certainly, a Sunday lunchtime kick-off at this most notoriously awkward of venues wouldn't have been top of the list for Brendan Rodgers and his players as they looked to start the rebuild.
STEPHEN McGOWAN: After humiliating week for Scottish football, is it time to admit that Derek Adams was right?
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 4, 2024
No one enjoys hearing painful home truths. Least of all the flat earthers who would rather stick their fingers in their ears than acknowledge Scottish football's obvious imperfections. Derek Adams learned that the hard way. Manager of Ross County last December, he was tarred and feathered for claiming that the standard of the SPFL was 'shocking'. 'I've left a team in League Two (Morecambe) that's miles better than this team,' he said of his own side.
Borussia Dortmund 7-1 Celtic: A different level of ineptitude that showed Rodgers is wildly off the mark
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 2, 2024
For long enough, Celtic's defensive record on the road in the Champions League has made the prospect of picking up points feel about as likely as winning the lottery without first buying a ticket. Brendan Rodgers' men conceded 10 times in three away games in their group last year, one more than they shipped on the road under Ange Postecoglou the previous season. Each time you venture into these highly intimidating arenas, you've got a mountain to climb. Give your opponent three goals of a start and you're starting the ascent with your laces tied together and a blindfold on.
Germany is tearing itself apart, writes IAN HERBERT, with football fans scared to fly the flag as they host Euro 2024 after it was hijacked by the Far Right
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 14, 2024
IAN HERBERT IN MUNICH: The pages of Der Spiegel have this week reflected a German nation desperately needing the kind of football fervour it discovered in 2006, when the World Cup arrived here for four blissful, sun-kissed weeks still remembered as the Sommermärchen, 'the summer fairytale'. The paper related, with full Germanic precision, what is - and isn't - acceptable workplace practice during the four-week 'state of emergency' which begins with the hosts' opening fixture against Scotland in Munich this evening. Watching games in the workplace is a 'no', though listening to them on a radio is rendered acceptable by labour legislation passed in 1986. Decorate your car with flags by all means, 'so long as the driver's field of vision isn't restricted'. Only extend your 'fan festival' deep into the night if you have 'municipal permission'.

How Germany's World Cup team fell apart: Players arrived late to meetings, Hansi Flick comparing his team to geese and cows, and a tumultuous atmosphere in their remote hotel, according to a Amazon video
www.dailymail.co.uk,

For the second time in a row, a new All or Nothing documentary has shed a light on the topics that resulted in Germany's exit from the World Cup group stage for the second time. Since focusing on Hansi Flick's side's turbulent time in Qatar, the new addition to Amazon's ever-growing list of behind-the-scenes series promises to be the most exciting football offering to date. Germany, the 2014 World Cup winner, brought high hopes, but their campaign was marred by unrest among players, a alleged lack of funding from fans back home, and delicate political questions, with the team losing only four points to finish third in their group.

In a pivotal Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin, Bayern Munich faces Union Berlin
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Union Berlin has always had a tumultuous streak. They never had a chance of triumph in communist East Germany, where rivals BFC Dynamo had the Stasi's support. Dissidents of the regime's Stadion An der Alten Forsterei were compelled to shout words they would never dare on the streets. 'Down with the wall!' When Union won a free-kick and the opposition stood up to protect it, was reportedly such a chant. In football stadiums, part of the Berlin frontline during the Cold War. Union is now a separate entity. Bayern Munich has won Germany's Bundesliga in each of the last ten seasons, many in less than a magnificent parade.
