Early life and discovery
Jourdan Dunn was born in Brent, London, and with her mother she grew up in nearby Greenford. She attended Elthorne Park High School in Hanwell. Jourdan is of Jamaican, Grenadian, and Syrian-Lebanese descent. Due to her height and weight, she confessed to being self-conscious as a teen. She said that as she grew up, people would often suggest she become a model, but she was unsure what a model did not know. As she gave her a fresh look at her work, she said that it seems that America's Next Top Models astound her.

Dunn made her runway debut in the New York show in 2007, assisting Marc Jacobs and Polo Ralph Lauren, among others. She came to prominence in the industry right away. During the 2008 season, Louis Vuitton and Valentino appeared in 75 shows, including Louis Vuitton and Valentino. Dunn has since been a major fixture on runways, having walked for the industry's top designers. She was often praised for being the only black model in shows, which she later chastised designers.
