In Guardiola's 300th Premier League game, City were well below their best and had it not been for two bad misses from Chris Wood they may have slipped up. But goals in either half from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland means City remain a point behind Arsenal with a game in hand, though goalkeeper Ederson suffered a first-half shoulder injury that Guardiola said 'doesn't look good'.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY: Manchester City reeled Premier League leaders Arsenal back in with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest as the title race heads towards a thrilling finale. The Gunners moved four points clear when they beat Tottenham in a frantic north London derby earlier on Sunday, but City immediately responded thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland at the City Ground. Victory leaves them a point behind Mikel Arteta's side with a game in hand and ensured Pep Guardiola's 300th Premier League match in charge of City ended in success.

City, meanwhile, would perhaps be more comfortable in their return leg against Madrid, should that game end in a draw - but anything can happen in football, right?

JACK GAUGHAN AT THE BERNABEU: Real Madrid and Manchester City played out a pulsating 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night. Bernardo Silva's cheeky free kick within two minutes put the reigning champions ahead, but Real hit back straight away with Eduardo Camavinga's shot deflecting in off Ruben Dias . Almost instantly, Carlo Ancelotti's side were 2-1 up through Rodrygo, before Phil Foden's stunner in the second half brought City level. Josko Gvardiol scored arguably an even better goal to put City back in front, but Federico Valverde evened things up again with a crisp volley to ensure these teams couldn't be separated heading into the second leg in Manchester next week.

According to recent CIES Football Observatory findings, Manchester United's current squad is the most expensive ever assembled ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City. And when the switches were completed in 'deal sheet time', it was revealed that even the £2.4 billion target was beaten. Half of the division's income was spent on the window, while only four teams finished with an outlay of less than £50 million, including newcomers Sheffield United and Luton. Chelsea dominated the spending stakes this summer after pumping £428.8 million into their squad.
