Ederson is pictured wearing a sling after being injured in Man City's win over Nottingham Forest... as Pep Guardiola offers worrying update on his first-choice goalkeeper's condition

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 28, 2024
Manchester City have suffered a major blow in their title run-in after Ederson was forced off injured in their win against Nottingham Forest. At the City Ground on Sunday the Brazilian made his 40th start of the campaign in all competitions but was replaced at half-time by Stefan Ortega. Goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland were enough for the champions to claim all the three points against Nuno Espirito Santo's side but Ederson's injury at such a crucial juncture in the title race no doubt dampened celebrations.

Kevin De Bruyne breaks ANOTHER record after his man of the match display in Man City's crucial victory against Nottingham Forest

The playmaker picked up two assists after setting up both Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland as champions City moved just a point behind current leaders Arsenal. Gvardiol rose highest to nod home De Bruyne's inviting corner in the first half and the talisman later turned provider once again after slotting Haaland through. Haaland, marking his return from injury, made no mistake in tucking a neat finish beyond goalkeeper Matz Sels and wrapping up all three points for the visitors. He then wheeled away to celebrate with De Bruyne, who was able to toast history.

PLAYER RATINGS: Kevin De Bruyne stepped up for Man City when it mattered and Josko Gvardiol was key at both ends - but which Forest player scored just 4.5 after horror show?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 28, 2024
Manchester City ensured they remained slim favourites to retain their Premier League crown after beating Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The returning Erling Haaland settled City's second-half nerves shortly after being brought on as a substitute and moved the champions just one point behind Arsenal. It was far from plain sailing for Pep Guardiola's slickers before the break with Chris Wood spurning several golden openings and Callum Hudson-Odoi firing off target. City, though, took the lead a shade after the half-hour mark after Josko Gvardiol powered a header home from a corner - and Haaland went on to seal the victory Here, Mail Sport's TOM COLLOMOSSE has rated the players...

Manchester City kept up their Premier League title charge after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 to move just a point behind current leaders Arsenal. Erling Haaland marked his return to action with a goal in the second half to wrap up the victory for City and ensure their destiny remains in their own hands. Haaland coolly slotted into the bottom corner shortly after coming on while Josko Gvardiol had made the breakthrough after nodding home Kevin De Bruyne's corner. City have a game in hand over Arsenal and were made to work hard for their victory on the banks of the River Trent, with Forest squandering several golden openings. Here, Mail Sport's JACK GAUGHAN takes you through some of the stories you might have missed from the City Ground...

Pep Guardiola makes BIZARRE claim as to why Man City's title bid is still on track after 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest… as he admits his side rode their luck at the City Ground

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 28, 2024
TOM OCLLOMOSSE AT THE CITY GROUND: Pep Guardiola admitted Manchester City rode their luck as he bizarrely claimed their title bid remains on track because of the City Ground pitch. In Guardiola's 300th Premier League game, City were well below their best and had it not been for two bad misses from Chris Wood they may have slipped up. But goals in either half from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland means City remain a point behind Arsenal with a game in hand, though goalkeeper Ederson suffered a first-half shoulder injury that Guardiola said 'doesn't look good'.

Nottingham Forest 0-2 Man City: Erling Haaland comes off the bench to net his 21st Premier League goal of the season after Josko Gvardiol's opener as Pep Guardiola's side keep the pressure on Arsenal at the top

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 28, 2024
NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0-2 MANCHESTER CITY: Manchester City reeled Premier League leaders Arsenal back in with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest as the title race heads towards a thrilling finale. The Gunners moved four points clear when they beat Tottenham in a frantic north London derby earlier on Sunday, but City immediately responded thanks to goals from Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland at the City Ground. Victory leaves them a point behind Mikel Arteta's side with a game in hand and ensured Pep Guardiola's 300th Premier League match in charge of City ended in success.

Man City superfan Noel Gallagher celebrates with supporters in the away end as the champions move one point behind leaders Arsenal with 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 28, 2024
Noel Gallagher was spotted celebrating in the crowd with the away fans during Manchester City's 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, as the famous Citizens fan enjoyed the trip to the City Ground.  Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland scored the goals for the visitors on Sunday that kept the pressure on leaders Arsenal, who are now one point ahead having played a game more than City.  It was far from plain sailing for City, although they ultimately won by a clear margin, as Chris Wood notably spurned a number of chances in front of goal, but at full-time it was the champions that took the points.

Thierry Henry predicts Phil Foden's stunning goal in 3-3 draw with Real Madrid seconds BEFORE it goes in... as fans praise the Frenchman's 'elite ball knowledge'

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 12, 2024
Thierry Henry correctly predicted Phil Foden's goal against Real Madrid seconds before it had even gone in.  Manchester City and Carlo Ancelotti's men played out an enthralling 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Tuesday.  Phil Foden, having been rested on the weekend against Crystal Palace, continued his fine form with a stunning strike to draw City level before goals by Josko Gvardiol and Federico Valverde.

Two Premier League stars lead the way after thrilling Champions League quarter-final matches - with one former Leeds player rated the best of the bunch... but who else features in Sofascore's Best XI of the round?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 11, 2024
After weeks of anticipation, the Champions League came back with a bang for their quarter-final fixtures.  With 18 goals from just four matches, fans across Europe were treated to a handful of thrilling games, ranging from Arsenal's draw with Bayern to Barcelona's comeback at PSG.  It was a difficult night for both Arsenal and their title rivals Manchester City, who were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The reason why away goals rule was scrapped by UEFA in 2021 - as Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Man City play out thrilling draws... but how would the old regulation impact this season's Champions League games?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 10, 2024
The away goals rule has not been used in European tournaments since the 2021-22 season after UEFA announced that they would be abolishing the regulation that had been an intrinsic part of European tournaments since the 1960s. The regulation would certainly have some significance following Tuesday's opening round of Champions League quarter-final matches if it was still in place, with Arsenal holding Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates, while Manchester City rallied to secure a 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid.  Prior to 2021, it would mean that Arsenal would travel to the Allianz Arena in their second fixture and would need to attack against the Bundesliga Champions. City, meanwhile, would perhaps be more comfortable in their return leg against Madrid, should that game end in a draw - but anything can happen in football, right?

JACK GAUGHAN AT THE BERNABEU: Real Madrid and Manchester City played out a pulsating 3-3 draw at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday night. Bernardo Silva's cheeky free kick within two minutes put the reigning champions ahead, but Real hit back straight away with Eduardo Camavinga's shot deflecting in off Ruben Dias . Almost instantly, Carlo Ancelotti's side were 2-1 up through Rodrygo, before Phil Foden's stunner in the second half brought City level. Josko Gvardiol scored arguably an even better goal to put City back in front, but Federico Valverde evened things up again with a crisp volley to ensure these teams couldn't be separated heading into the second leg in Manchester next week.

Manchester United has just one name in the FA Cup squad of the round, although Liverpool also has an appearance in Sofascore's top XI... so which unexpected celebrity receives the highest rating of the quarter-finals?

They may have a total value of £130 million, but that did not stop Josko Gvardol and Matheus Nunes from behaving like teenagers as the head boy walked into class last month. Jeddah's unforgiving humidity produces a natural sweat, but it did not stop them from revealing their youthful beauty, Kevin De Bruyne. The veteran internationals cheered as the Belgian made his way out to training ahead of the Club World Cup. It was the first time Nunes had pitched with De Bruyne and Gvardiol, but it was only after a few sessions before City's playmaker tightened his hamstring in August.

Josko Gvardol, a £78 million defender, receives a post-match ROLLOCKING ROLLOCKING before he can even leave the field... even though he helped Man City beat Everton 3-1

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 28, 2023
On Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola was caught deep in conversation with defender Josko Gvardiol, who was clearly intent on hammering home a point or two player despite having already won the match. Guardiola has a reputation as one of the best match masters in football, and he has a tradition of providing post-match grilling on the field. On Wednesday, it was at the site of his team's triumphant return to the Premier League, going from a goal down to beat Everton 3-1 at Goodson Park, having won the Club World Cup earlier this week.

PLAYER RATINGS: Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling are among Chelsea's most popular players after influencing Chelsea to draw with former club Man City, but Josko Gvardiol suffered in a difficult outing

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 12, 2023
Chelsea and Manchester City sparked a 4-4 draw after Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling netting against their former club. Despite Erling Haaland's medical preparations, Palmer and Sterling put on great shows to end a contest that twisted and turned at Stamford Bridge. On three separate occasions, the city led, but they were defeated in a tense game, with Palmer rounding off the scoring from the penalty spot late on. Palmer was denied a foul on replacement Armando Broja by Ruben Dias, and he made no mistake in slotting in. ADRIAN KAJUMBA of Mail Sport rates both sets of participants...

STEELE STEELE: Dominik Szoboszlai, a fan favourite in Steven Gerrard's legendary No 8 shirt, is off to a good start at Liverpool, earning him his nickname and potentially the best Premier League signing of the season

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 19, 2023
LEWIS STEELE: It was in the city of Szefehler, Hungary, where Zsolt Szoboszlai set off a string of events that would include his son's captaincy in the Austrian and German Bundesliga, and then became a fan favorite at Liverpool. Dominik Szoboszlai, wearing his iconic No 8 shirt that was once occupied by Steven Gerrard, is quickly winning acclaim at Anfield for his tenacious performances. Many people are comparing him outside of Merseyside as one of the summer's best signings in the Premier League. It's a simple task to make. In Ange Postecoglou's latest and exciting Tottenham, James Maddison and a few others have flourished, while former RB Leipzig teammate Josko Gvardiol is doing well at Manchester City. However, Szoboszlai is clearly superior to the lot.

Manchester United's £989 million staff is the most expensive on the planet's top 100 list, with Chelsea coming in second on £975 million. So where does your Premier League club place - and which one isn't listed?

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 13, 2023
According to recent CIES Football Observatory findings, Manchester United's current squad is the most expensive ever assembled ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City. United's most recent reports, released on Wednesday, shows that the club has invested €1.15 billion (£1 billion) on their current squad, with just under £400 million spent on transfer fees since Erik ten Hag took over in May of last year. CIES' figures include add-ons, despite effective payments.

Over £2.4 billion splashed out on players by the end of deadline day, as Premier League clubs smashed a one-transfer window in a single league this summer

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2023
Late last night, the market slammed shut after a slew of competing forces scrambled to close their last-gasp deal, which included several dramatic big-money swoops. As is now normal, deal sheets for a handful of these transfers had been submitted, allowing Nottingham Forest in particular to invest heavily well after the deadline. The top-flight's overall expenditures had increased from £2.2 billion to more than £2.3 billion by 10.30 p.m. on the final day of business, largely due to a flurry of last-gasp moves. And when the switches were completed in 'deal sheet time', it was revealed that even the £2.4 billion target was beaten. Half of the division's income was spent on the window, while only four teams finished with an outlay of less than £50 million, including newcomers Sheffield United and Luton. Chelsea dominated the spending stakes this summer after pumping £428.8 million into their squad.

Arsenal and Chelsea have grown in success, but Man United have taken costly risks and other clubs appear to be in danger. After the deadline day, YOUR Premier League club's summer transfer market was ranked

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2023
Premier League clubs will now have to make do with their current squads until January as the high-intensity drama of the transfer window begins to fade. The big boys in the division have been bolstered, the middle of the road sides have increased, and the teams that were supposed to face it out at the top of the table have also been increased. Transfers can make or break a team's fate during this 38-game marathon, with some teams wishing they didn't get a big contract because of the line, or ecstatic that their brand-new signing has come well. Supporters of each Premier League team will have their own minds already made up about their activity, but how does Mail Sport rank your team's dealings? Here are our A-E transfer ratings...
