Elliott appeared on ESPN Classic Now, a short-lived Classic Now, which aired from June 2005 to March 2006. He has also appeared on ESPNEWS and SportsCenter as a co-anchor. Following the departure of former news anchor Juju Chang, Elliott joined ABC's Good Morning America in May 2011. He began as a backup anchor on ABC World News' weekend edition, debuting on May 21, 2011. Lara Spencer was also anchored Good Afternoon America, an afternoon spin-off broadcast from July 9 to September 7, 2012 as a temporary replacement for ABC's cancelled talk show The Revolution.
Elliott had signed a deal with NBC and will leave ABC News and Good Morning America on March 30, 2014. Amy Robach was named as his immediate replacement. Elliott's on-air debut with NBC made him $4 million per year, but a six-month non-compete disqualifies him from appearing on news-related television, limiting him to NBC Sports sports shows such as the 2014 Kentucky Derby—where he made his on-air debut. Elliott was believed that NBC was considering him as a future host of Today, and he told the news that he "[hope] Matt Lauer is here when I step away from this career for the 30th years. I can tell you that the only ones I've had, which revolved around news, are ways to provide sports content to them." Elliott will eventually serve as a sports reporter for the newspaper.
Elliott had left NBC in December 2015.
CBS News announced on March 1, 2016, that Elliott will be the lead anchor for its digital news service CBSN. Elliott, according to CBS News president David Rhodes, needed a "outlet," continuing to say that "we're going to need him as much as he can do in these various areas of reporting and anchoring." It's another reason why it's the best spot for him because it's practically infinite. At CBSN, we have some really hard-working people, but we don't have enough of them."
Elliott revealed on February 10, 2017 that he would be leaving CBSN, but that "knowing how things work here, I may see you again on Monday morning." Elliott had been told by an executive that CBS wanted to place him in a larger capacity as a field reporter, under which he would have filed coverage for CBS's television news services. However, CBS executives were caught off guard by the sudden announcement, and they were unaware that CBSN had any plans to promote him. Elliott was fired on February 13, 2017.
Elliott received a local Emmy Award in New York City in 2005 for writing and contributing to Angles on MSG Network, as one of the co-hosts for Super Bowl XL for Westwood One Sports. Elliott co-hosted Yellowstone Live on National Geographic Channel with wildlife specialist Chris Packham in 2018, a four-night festival showcasing the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem with live footage from hundreds of photographers and seven camera crews.
