124 people were arrested outside the Times' Midtown headquarters after about 150 protesters took over the lobby after slammed the newspaper's coverage of the Israel and Hamas war in Gaza, according to NYPD officials. The mostly-masked protesters in the institution's lobby held up a sign that read: 'Stop the presses!Free Palestine!' Earlier on Thursday, demonstrators barred hundreds of trucks from approaching the Times' printing plant and picking up newspapers from driving the roads from 1 a.m. to 3.30 a.m., beginning about 1 a.m. and ending at around 3.30 a.m. Some people were laid down in a chain while others waited for confirmation that 'Consent for genocide is manufactured here.' Both demonstrators were supported by a group called Writers Against the Gaza war (WAWOG). 'We're trying to get the Times out of circulation for a day,' a protester told HellGateNYC. People think of it as this authoritative source of objective information, but it is also at the forefront of manufacturing acceptance for this war.' We want to defyke that and also create a vacuum where other things are possible.' The plant, as well as the NYT, is also used by USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Newsday, and the New York Post.

'After a lengthy and courageous fight with depression, a New York Times political journalist died at the age of 44,' his family said. Blake Hounshell, a top editor at Foreign Policy magazine and Politico before moving to The Times last year, died in Washington on Tuesday, leaving behind his wife, Sandy, and two children. According to a police source, his death will be investigated as a suicide.
