Jorge Garay (right) is accused of killing Karla Godoy (left) because she was planning to visit her daughter in Spain, where the youngster lived with her father, Ms Godoy's ex-husband, in a historic trial held in the United Kingdom under new domestic violence laws. A jury at Maidstone Crown Court, Kent, was told by a tyrant Garay twice wrapped a cord around Ms Godoy's neck and applied pressure from behind to asphyxiate her. He then wrapped the 37-year-old's body in blue plastic sheeting and carried her on the 6km journey to her grandmother's house in the Carabayllo province of Lima, where he dug a grave and buried her. At the start of the Peruvian-Spanish national's trial today, Garay said he told a police officer in Peru that he killed his mother in a lawsuit and had engaged in self defense at the start.

Jorge Garay, 46, of Hythe Street, Dartford, has been charged with the murder of 36-year-old Karla Godoy in Lima, Peru, between September 21 and October 2. He was arrested in London on Saturday before the Crown Prosecution Service accepted charges against him on Sunday.
