England's five best Test away victories: Bazball steals the show in Asia, as Ben Stokes reigns supreme... but winning in Ashes is much more impressive than winning in India

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 29, 2024
Ben Stokes' side recovered with a 196 from Ollie Pope as he came back from a jittery first innings to play one of his country's best abroad. Tom Hartley, the debutant spinner, made a comeback of his own by taking seven second innings wickets to spin his team to victory by 28 runs. With confidence on their side and a series win in India, England will now go into the remainder of the series, an unprecedented occurrence in the modern age.

Why radio star Neil Mitchell has blasted 'woke' Aussie cricket stars for being hypocrites by 'agreeing to play' Taliban-run Afghanistan at the World Cup

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 8, 2023
After Australia's dramatic victory over Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, the veteran radio shock jock (left) has officially called out the Australian cricket team - and the team has received a slew of support for his remarks. Skipper Pat Cummins (pictured with Afghan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, right) was possibly the intended victim of the media star.

Afghanistan is on the verge of reaching their first Cricket World Cup semifinals... if they can beat Australia, according to Mail Sport, 'the game is more than a game to us.'

AADAM PATEL IN MUMBAI: Chennai is a special place. The 23rd of October 23. Afghanistan has waltzed to a first-ever victory over Pakistan, and the festivities are in full swing, with raucous singing and dancing. Raees Ahmadzai, the assistant coach, selects the steel lids used to protect the food in the dressing room and bashes them together as if they were musical instruments. Jonathan Trott, then head coach, participates in the dancing. This is the first time the players have seen this side of him before, but this is different. This victory brought a different sense of emotion to England's World Cup, given Pakistan's political undertones - in the last few weeks, thousands of Afghan refugees were forced out of Pakistan.

England captain Jos Buttler admits to misinterpreting the conditions and was 'outplayed' by Afghanistan following the humiliating loss of a 'big setback' at the World Cup, but insists the team will recover from the 'big setback' at the World Cup

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 15, 2023
After his team lost to a dramatic loss to Afghanistan in their second match at this World Cup, Jos Buttler said England misread the Feroz Shah Kotla. After winning the toss, the England captain had bowled first, but the pitch slowed as the game progressed, bringing Afghanistan's high-class spinners into the game, and the expectation of a batting dew, which would help the team's second row, failed to materialize. Buttler said, "We always want to play positive cricket and be tough." England, with the exception of Harry Brooks, poked and propelled their way to 215 all out and a 69-run loss. Some days you don't play as well as you should. Perhaps the wicket didn't turn up as we expected, and the dew didn't come into it as much as we expected.

England suffers one of the biggest ever surprises after losing by 69 runs and giving Afghanistan their second-ever tournament victory

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 15, 2023
TESTER BOOTH IN DELHI: England's World Cup defense is in ruins after being humiliated by Afghanistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla. The tournament, it's true, needed a shock to spice it up. But few expected this game to have it. Jos Buttler's side is likely to lose five of their remaining six games to advance to the last four after a humiliating 69-run loss. England will have a difficult time beating any of them on this evidence. It was a glorious night for Afghanistan and Jonathan Trott, their English coach, raked a big feather in their cap. Scotland had been the only victims in 17 previous World Cup matches. It's on another level to humble the world champions.

As he warns team spinner Rashid Khan to cause injuries for his former team, Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott insists that the World Cup match against England is just another cricket match

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 14, 2023
Jonathan Trott, a former England international, says there is "nothing personal" as he tries to take down his former team as Afghanistan's head coach. Trott was a member of the England side who lost in the quarter-finals in India a dozen years ago. He continued to play 68 ODIs and has the second highest average of anyone with at least 20 innings, ranking second behind only Dawid Malan.

LAWRENCE BOOTH: England must tread lightly on quagmire as ICC are forced to defend dangerous Dharamshala outfield amid safety concerns for players ahead of Bangladesh clash in Cricket World Cup

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 8, 2023
England will face Bangladesh in Dharamshala tomorrow, not only in need of a victory after New Zealand's hammering, but also with a warning from their former batsman Jonathan Trott about the playing surface's shambolic condition. Trott, who earned 68 ODI caps for England, is in India as the coach of Afghanistan, and after his team's loss to the Bangladeshis on Saturday, he looked dismay as his player Mujeeb Ur Rahman dangerously jammed his knee in the turf. After heavy rain and a fungal outbreak, the local authorities were urged to prevent both by using sand, a stroll across Dharamshala's outfield revealed the severity of the rubble.

With England gearing up for a must-win tie against Bangladesh, the ICC is expected to shield volatile Dharamshala outfield

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 8, 2023
As England prepares for the crucial World Cup match against Bangladesh on Tuesday, the ICC has been asked to defend Dharamshala's sandy outfield. Jos Butler's side will not win after New Zealand's hammering on Thursday, but they will be equipped with a warning from their former batsman Jonathan Trott about the shambolic state of the surface. Trott, who earned 68 ODI caps for England, is in India as the head coach of Afghanistan and looked on in awe as one of his players - Mujeeb Ur Rahman - dangerously jammed his knee in the turf during his team's humiliation by the Bangladeshis on Saturday.

TOP SPIN AT THE TEST: Stokes plays superbly while Bairstow is controversially 'stumped out'

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 2, 2023
TOP SPIN AT THE TEST: Ben Stokes played one of the best Ashes innings to date, but England fell short of winning the second Test on what can only be described as a tumultuous day at Lord's. Here is a look at some of the key findings from the fifth day of the Ashes second Test at Lord's.

Toby Radford claims he has fallen victim to a royalties scam over his cricket coaching e-book

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 31, 2023
BY MATT HUGHES: Amazon and his publisher have short-changed a leading international cricket coach in what he calls a royalties fraud. New Generation Publishing has decided to pay Toby Radford, a former Middlesex and Glamorgan head coach, for this year's World Cup by Jonathan Trott, £2 for every e-book sale of coaching books. However, rather than charging him £8840 for over 4000 units, the publishers have paid him just £106 for the e-books, a mere 0.002p-per-sale. 'I was stunned when the royalty payment came through, which included printed copies] rather than the £9000 agreed upon.' Radford told Mail Sport, 'I was astonished.' 'The total number for e-books was just £106.' I questioned it with the publisher, who said that the e-book royalties were not legitimate profits, but that Amazon readers received only 0.002p. It's a straight fraud. Many other writers will have been shortchanged in a similar manner,' I'm sure.'

A new history of cricket reveals that it's not so gentlemanly

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 4, 2023
It's funny to think that cricket would never have broken the rules of being a strange ball game virtually unheard of by the rest of the world. It was perhaps an island nation, but with its long maritime history, it had a reach way beyond its size. And of all the signs of Britain's loitering in foreign nations, cricket has to be one of the few things it left behind that is both very apparent and distinctive, and it is impossible to knock even to the most awakened. Simon Wilde's extensive history of the English cricket team abroad is so packed with excitement. Cricket tours are long, action-packed, and often gossip-filled.

After beating Pakistan, England's best overseas Test cricket victories have been recorded

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 5, 2022
England won the first Test by 74 runs in Rawalpindi over a dead pitch, the setting sun, and a dogged Pakistan. Ben Stokes made a fourth day declaration that could have backfired on England, and, in fact, Pakistan appeared firmly on track to win by 343 points. But Jimmy Anderson and Ollie Robinson were out for four wickets apiece after they managed to pull something out of the surface before Jack Leach ended it. So where does this win rank among England's finest overseas? LAWRENCE BOOTH, a renowned newspaper in the United States, is ranked in the top five by the best of the top five.

Keaton Jennings, England's recalled batsman, insists he is returning as a "different individual."

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 20, 2022
After being re-called by England cricket to play against Pakistan, Keaton Jennings had to make a decision. Is he going to graduate or play for the Three Lions? The 30-year-old was recalled for England's three-match Test series, which starts next week after Jennings finished as top scorer in Division One of the County Championship this summer, with 1,233 runs for Lancashire and five centuries at an average of 72.52.

NASSER HUSSAIN: England batsmen must not allow Sri Lanka's twirlers to get them into a spin, according to a NASSER HUSSAIN

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 4, 2022
NASSER HUSSAIN: The equation could not be more straightforward for England right now. After Australia's narrow victory over Afghanistan, they will forget about the net run-rate. Sri Lanka defeated Sri Lanka and the Twenty20 World Cup semi-finals have been hosted. It will be difficult, particularly because the weather could favor Sri Lanka more than England. Two games have already been played on the same SCG pitch that will be used today, and that tells you it will be a case of bat first if Jos Buttler wins the toss. All five matches in this tournament have been decided by the team winning the first 15 T20 matches on this ground, which means a lot will be at stake for the coin. It will spin in Sydney, especially if it remains dry - and the forecast today is correct, but it does bring Sri Lanka and their three spinners into the game.

Sam Curran, England's five-wicket hero, has a dream of ending Australia's party

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 22, 2022
Curran had five for ten and excelled at the death when Afghanistan was bowled out for 112 in a near-perfect England performance in the field. Then, with England having made marginally poor progress of achieving their opening World Cup target with 11 balls and five wickets to spare, the left-armer looked forward to facing an Australian team that had earlier suffered to a humiliating loss against New Zealand.

STUART BROAD: I was too tentative in first Test, but it won't happen in next showdown

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 20, 2022
STUART BROAD: The mentality with which this England Test team is planning to approach the game ensures that there will be many thrills and a few spills along the way. The spills against South Africa this week were evident. We've got off to a good start in our summer by winning all four Tests against New Zealand and India, but we must remember that we were in situations where we might have lost each of them.
