To offset the dramatic rise in corporate rates, businesses get a £9 billion tax break

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 16, 2023

The initiative, which has been described as 'full expensing,' has been introduced to replace the'super-deductible' - a tax relief policy that allows companies to claim 130 percent of what they invest on machinery for the company against their tax-deductible income. At the end of this month, it will have been outlawed. The new tax break will begin in April and will cost almost £8 billion this year, £10.7 billion in 2024 and £8.7 billion in 2025, resulting in an average annual cost of around £9 billion. This would cover about half of the controversial increase in corporation tax, which is projected to reach about £18 billion a year. According to Matthew Fell, interim director general of Confederation of British Industry, full capital expensing will keep the UK at the top of the market for recruiting investment and keeps the country at the top of the charts for attracting investment, and puts the country on a more stable path to a more productive economy.'
