On October 19, a NASA shovel that was used by explorer Charlie Duke to gather moon rook samples on the lunar surface went up for auction in Boston. The'moon rock scoop' was part of the Apollo 16 mission in 1972, which saw the astronauts return to Earth with 211 pounds of lunar samples. In a video of the mission, Duke Toe can be seen using the 5.5 inch shovel, which has a rotating head.

His family said he died from natural causes 'after a full and complete life.' Michael Collins, who was a member of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin's historic first moon landing mission, died in 2021, though Apollo 9's Jim McDivitt, 16's John Young, 12's Alan Bean, and 15's Alfred Worden have all died recently.
