I'm sure it has little to do with the fact that Dubai is slightly sunnier and warmer in December than Scotland's biggest city, with beaches and swimming ponds; or that it has much more five-star hotels, glitzy restaurants, and full bars than the rest of the world for those who are unable to get a lift on one of the hundreds of private jets that left Dubai and reduced to the humbleness of flying commercial.

As part of a push to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, Britain would want to 'lead a pledge' to triple nuclear power production. On Friday, the United Kingdom was one of 22 signatories to a 'Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy' expo COP28 in Dubai, and it was announced earlier today. The initiative would bring together signatories to invest in new technology, commit to the construction of new buildings, such as small modular and other advanced reactors, and encourage financial institutions to lend money between endorsers.

The news of Sultan al-Jaber's leadership in this year's COP28 climate talks was met with high praise and ruthless criticism in equal measure as the UAE announced it in January. Jaber, a professor of both business and economics, was a great pick for those. Ali Jaafar was sentenced to five years in prison. Yousef Jaafar was sentenced to more than four years in prison. They were also ordered to spend $6 million in restitution and forfeit the funds from their program. Mohamed Jaafar (pictured center), another of Ali Jaafar's sons who worked for Democrat Senator John Kerry, pleaded guilty to his involvement in the scheme in November and received six months in jail.
