On February 21, 2023, John Berry, 85, confessed to murdering Edna, his wife of 61 years, at their bungalow on Turpins Close in Holland-on-Sea, Essex. Mrs Berry had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2021, and her husband was her primary carer, but Judge Christopher Morgan said he had'stubbornly' declined assistance even as her illness got 'progressively' worse. After recovering from a fall, the pensioner told investigators that he had lost his temper after Mrs Berry 'kicked and scratched at him'. She was discovered by emergency personnel in a'serious amount of blood spatter,' before being airlifted to a hospital in Cambridge, where she died as a result of her 'catastrophic' injuries.
