Joe & Katherine's Bargain Holidays review: Comedians gave us little to laugh about on this boring bargain break, writes ROLAND WHITE

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 25, 2024
ROLAND WHITE: A few years ago, Norway popularised the fashion for so-called Slow TV where nothing much happens: dreary train journeys, interminable boat trips, and even an evening devoted to fires and firewood. Joe & Katherine's Bargain Holidays wasn't quite as slow as that, but if it were a car, it wouldn't have picked up any speeding fines in Wales. Comedians Joe Wilkinson and Katherine Ryan went on holiday to Norfolk for four days and didn't really do very much. The idea is that Joe loves a bargain, while Katherine has to be prised from the lap of luxury with an industrial-strength crowbar. As Joe puts it: 'She loves the shinier things in life.' For Katherine, a good trip involves luxury accommodation, fine dining, and perhaps a spa day. Joe, by contrast, wants to come home 'with cash still on the hip - enough to buy a sit-on lawnmower'.

His behaviour has divided viewers, with some desperate to see him out by the Faithfuls and banished, while others applauded him for entertainment. And although he's enjoying his nefarious side for the gameshow, Paul in real life is both a loving husband and father, and his social media pages are littered with sweet family snaps.

Patrick Bamford of Leeds has claimed that one of his old teammates, a former Man City and Real Madrid player, 'hid in the showers' at halftime during a game and had a cigarette.' Modern professional footballers are model atheletes, carefully monitoring their diet, exercise, and diet, with clubs recruiting sports scientists to help maximise and increase the number of players who can play on the field. Bamford played for many clubs around the English football league, including Middlesbrough, Chelsea, and Burnley, and on BBC Radio 5 Live, comedian Joe Wilkinson remembered a memory of a former teammate during an away day.

LEWIS STEELE: Earlier this year, Leicester, the former champions of the FA Cup, arrived in Gillingham for a cold January lunchtime. That day, Kent's only Football League club welcomed a full house, and although the Foxes may have mistook them for VIP guests, another celebrity attraction was added. Brad Galinson, a Florida-based real estate mogul, did a lap of the stadium with his wife and sons right before the players took the field at Priestfield for the 27th years of turbulent stewardship under Paul Scally.

Due to the cost of cooking, families are avoiding the traditional Sunday dish

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 26, 2023
Many traditional dishes, such as roast chicken, lamb, pork, or beef, can be cooked in an oven for several hours. More than a third of adults (36 percent) are choosing the Sunday dinner less often than a year ago, as energy prices rise. As younger people continue to reduce their electricity bills, this rises to almost half amongst those under the age of 35. People are trying to make potato dauphinoise and making Yorkshire puddings in the microwave, according to supermarket Tesco's news that would upset food purists.

Gillingham 0-1 Leicester: Brendan Rodgers' team faces Liverpool in League 2: Is there a way to get away from the opposition?

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 7, 2023
'WHAT can I tell you about Gillingham? In a brilliant sketch on BBC Live coverage from Priestfield, comedian Joe Wilkinson.' Apparently, David Frost went to school here, and there's a famous dockyard... oh, there's a cracking skating rig near where my brother lives.' There's a decent football team with a fan base, but there should be a dedicated fan base, according to Taskmaster and the 8 out of 10 Cats. Gillingham is sad to say, after a decade and more of mismanagement at the board level, the organisation is showing signs of decline. Neil Harris' team is back in League Two for the 24th season, with only seven league goals scored all season. For many years, there hasn't been much to celebrate in these regions, but yesterday provided a chance of escapism and a chance to look upwards.
