According to his brother Patrick, the former Super Bowl champion was believed to have suffered from a cardiac arrest. In 1977, the defenseman was selected with the seventh overall pick by the New Orleans Saints and went on to play for the Raiders and Buccaneers during his five-year stint in the league. But it was his time with the Oakland franchise that he was most well known for, winning Super Bowl XV in 1980.
