Jimmy Thunder Life

Ti'a James Senio Peau (born February 3, 1966) also known as Jimmy Thunder is a former New Zealand professional boxer.

He fought for New Zealand, but he also held the Australian heavyweight title twice, as well as the IBO and WBF heavyweight titles.

He now holds the world record for the fastest knockout (11 seconds) in boxing history.

Early life

Thunder was known as Jimmy Peau in his youth and amateur careers. His mother comes from Fasitoouta, and his father is from Falelatai. Thunder was born third out of six siblings. He grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, although born in Apia.

He began attending Onehunga High School in Auckland. Thunder was introduced by his brother to Gerry Preston. In Mangere Bridge, Preston took on the young Samoan in his boxing gym. Thunder became the first Samoan-born fighter to win a gold medal in the heavyweight division, representing New Zealand at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. By unanimous vote, he defeated Dougie Young in his hometown. It was one of nine gold medals won by New Zealand in that year. He had 89 fights as an amateur, peaking his amateur career with an 83-6 record.

Personal life

In 2008, Peau married Iris White magpie, a Native American. The two met in 2006 and were married at Whitemagpie's reservation in Arizona in a cultural celebration. He had three children in New Zealand from his first marriage. Louis, his eldest son, was selected for the Samoa national rugby league team in 2010 to compete an Australian selection team. He has also played for the Mt Albert Lions at national level, starting in second row.

Peau was reportedly in financial debt after he took over in 2003. In Sunset Park, the Sunday Star-Times discovered he had been living homeless on the streets of Las Vegas. Peau would request handouts and turn up to boxing gyms, according to Thell Torrance, who was often turned down due to bad conditioning. He later revealed by close family that he was given casual labour in a Native American rehabilitation center and then became a personal coach and part-time bodyguard.

After an altercation at a Las Vegas street party, Peau was arrested and charged with battery and significant bodily harm. He was released from the Southern Desert Correctional Center, north of Las Vegas, after an immigration court heard Peau was on the verge of being deported to New Zealand. Since being detained by US immigration authorities three years ago before Whitemagpie paid a bond for his release after it was discovered that he did not have a US green card, Peau had previous immigrant issues.

Following brain surgery, Peau died in his sleep in Auckland on February 13, 2020.

Jimmy Thunder Career

Career

Thunder made the move to 1988 after being kicked out of New Zealand's Seoul Olympic Games team. In 1989, he changed his surname from Peau to Thunder at the suggestion of his boss, Jack Rennie, who was then in charge of his Pique. He also battled under the name James Thunder later in his career. Winnings over Tony Tubbs, Craig Peterson, Trevor Berbick, and Tim Witherspoon are among his notable victories. On the 18th edition of the USA Network's Tuesday Night Fights, he knocked Crawford Grimsley out for his first punch, although the count of ten was not even established, so it didn't take long, so the first time was not even started, so it took a few seconds. He won 35 victories out of a knockout in his 49 fight career, 28 of which were knocked out. He has gained regional titles, including the Australian Heavyweight Champion twice, as well as the smaller IBO and WBF Heavyweight titles.
