Jimmy Chamberlin Life

James Joseph Chamberlin (born June 10, 1964) is an American drummer and record producer.

He is best known as the drummer for The Smashing Pumpkins, an alternative rock band.

Chamberlin joined Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan in the supergroup Zwan and later formed his own group, the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, following the band's breakup in 2000.

Chamberlin joined Corgan in 2005 in a revival of The Smashing Pumpkins; he left the group in March 2009, but he returned to the club in 2015 for a summer tour.

He served with Skysaw until 2012.

He is currently under the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex name.

Chamberlin has performed with Chicago jazz saxophonist Frank Catalano for a number of performances in the Chicago area since his recent debut as CEO.

On July 29, 2014, Catalano and Chamberlin Love Supreme Collective EP was published. Chamberlin, who began as a jazz drummer, cites jazz musicians Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Gene Krupa, and Buddy Rich, as well as rock drummers Keith Moon, Ian Paice, and John Bonham as key influences on his technique.

Although he is best known as "one of rock's most versatile drummers," he mainly strives for emotionally mediated playing.

Chamberlin was named the 5th best drummer of all time by Gigwise in 2008.

Rolling Stone ranked Jimmy Chamberlin 53 on their list of the "100 Greatest Drummers Of All Time" list in 2016.

Early life

Chamberlin was born in Joliet, Illinois, as one of six children. Paul's father and his older brother Paul were both active in jazz bands, playing clarinet and drums, while his brother Paul is still a resident rock drummer with Chasing Amy.

At the age of 9, Chamberlin began drumming. Latin, Brazilian, and big band methods were among his early lessons, but under the tutelage of future Yanni drummer Charlie Adams, they mainly concentrated on jazz.

Chamberlin left home at the age of 15 and joined a string of local bands. Although his early music career was lucrative, Chamberlin's father coerced him to enroll in college. Chamberlin revealed in 1994 that he had been estranged from his father for seven years. Chamberlin, chamberlin, was weary from the touring schedule, so he resigned and started a job building custom homes with his brother-in-law. He was a member of the Smashing Pumpkins before long.

The Smashing Pumpkins were looking for a live drummer to open a show at the Metro, a Chicago venue. Chamberlin and Billy Corgan met through a mutual acquaintance, and Chamberlin expressed skepticism about the possibility of returning to school later this month.

Corgan had his own concerns:

Chamberlin spent "lots of cash" as a carpenter before relocating to Chicago and devoted himself to the band. Chamberlin's entry pushed the band toward a more dynamic, vibrant sound.

During this time, Chamberlin had trouble with heroin use. Chamberlin went missing for days at a time into Atlanta's drug underworld, while the rest of the band feared for his life during the recording of 1993's Siamese Dream. "It's pretty textbook, boy makes it in a rock band, becomes extremely full of himself, and then he destroys himself," he said later.

Chamberlin's father died during a long international tour to promote 1995's multi-platinum Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and his heroin use soared to a fever peak. "I learned that escapism was better than emotion," Chamberlin said later, and that's where I hid... I got to the point where I didn't care. "It's been a struggle for me." Chamberlin overdosed on heroin while playing keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin died shortly, and Chamberlin was forced to leave the band ostensibly to safeguard his health. Corgan later told MTV News that Chamberlin had already overdosed on two occasions during the Mellon Collie tour prior to the 1996 festival, but that the band had managed to keep such situations private.

Corgan held a band meeting in which Chamberlin was reinstated as the group's drummer, and the band decided to break up after one more album and tour. Machina/The Machines of God and the freely distributed Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music released two albums in 2000, including two albums, before appearing at a farewell show in Chicago on December 2, 2000.

Chamberlin joined Corgan in 2001 to form Zwan. Despite Chamberlin's forecast that "the band is going to be huge," Zwan's only album, Mary Star of the Sea, was released before disbanding in 2003. Chamberlin began Jimmy Chamberlin Complex in 2004 and 2005, the first studio album on sale. "I just wanted to make music, not necessarily be limited to making a Zwan or a Pumpkins record," Chamberlin said of the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. The Jimmy Chamberlin Complex posted a new song "Paranoia" on Jimmy Chamberlin's Official Twitter account on April 29, 2016.

Chamberlin revealed his new project, a band named This, while giving drum clinics in late 2009. Mike Reina and guitarist Anthony Pirog, who also includes multi-instrumentalists Mike Reina and guitarist Anthony Pirog, announced that the group, as well as multi-instrumentalists Mike Reina and guitarist Anthony Pirog, would record with Roy Thomas Baker in Washington, D.C., in early 2010.

On November 1, 2010, Amazon and iTunes exclusive Great Civilizations' debut, and Great Civilizations, their first album, a six-track release, became available as a digital download only on both Amazon and iTunes. Even on the band's official website, there was no official announcement of a new release. After there was confusion over the band's name, downloads from iTunes and Amazon were disabled.

The Skysaw full length LP will be released on Dangerbird Records in March 2011. The new, extended 10 song Great Civilizations album was released on June 21, 2011. Minus The Bear performed hometown shows at Chicago's Metro and the Black Cat in Washington, DC, and appeared on the JBTV Television Show in Chicago, Illinois.

Chamberlin began working in Chicago as an investor and advisor in 2011. Kevin Willer, the founders of then-1871, began to work as an investor and advisor. Chamberlin's rise in involvement with startups led to his employment with LiveOne Inc., a digital media firm. Tim and John Ganschow (of Chicago) were presenting CrowdSurfing, the founders of an investment firm that included Chamberlin. Chamberlin was captivated by the company's newfoundlence and the CrowdSurfing technology and came on board to assist the company both financially and as an advisor. LiveOne Inc.'s Chief Executive Officer, Chamberlin, joined Yahoo, YouTube, AEG, Vans, Phish, C3, Budweiser's Made in America Festival, Umphrey's McGee, and others.

Chamberlin attended the Web Summit, Ireland's highest tech conference, in November 2014. While on tour, Brian Morrissey addressed his time with the Smashing Pumpkins as well as the future of digital music at the Web Summit Centre Stage, as well as Adrian Grenier, Chris Kaskie, and Brian Morrissey. "Artists are looking for a destination," he said, "and" emerging technology gives them the opportunity to experience some of those destinations and package them in a way that encourages creativity."

Chamberlin appeared in Chicago on a variety of live performances in the Chicago area in 2013. Since then, the group has continued to perform live shows and has released a collection of albums together. Love Supreme Collective - EP starring Jimmy Chamberlin, Percy Jones, Chris Poland, and Adam Benjamin was released on July 29, 2014, and it quickly became the top-selling jazz album on iTunes USA. "God's Gonna Cut You Down," the sequel to "God's Gonna Cut You Down" on April 7, 2015, debuted at No. 1. On the iTunes Jazz sales chart, it was the highest charting Instrumental album on the iTunes chart, and it was the best charting Instrumental album on the iTunes Jazz chart at the time, published in April 2015. It debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Jazz charts at number four. "Bye Bye Blackbird," the 3rd collaboration between Catalano and Chamberlin was announced on May 27, 2016. David Sanborn appears on this album.

Billy Corgan said in April 2004 solo that he and Chamberlin intend to work together again in the future. Corgan announced plans to "renew and revive" the Pumpkins after appearing on Life Begins Again on June 21, 2005. Chamberlin contacted Corgan to agree, and MTV.com announced on February 2, 2006, that he and Corgan had signed a new management contract with the Front Line Management firm, with a spokesperson who confirmed that they had signed under the name "Smashing Pumpkins."

Chamberlin and Corgan, without the other original members, have decided to record an album alone. On May 22, 2007, they opened their first show in Paris, with three new band members. Zeitgeist, the new album, was released on July 10. The band has released more albums and toured extensively in the upcoming year and a half.

Chamberlin's website announced on March 20, 2009 that the Pumpkins' website had been taken down. Chamberlin said on his blog that he resigned as a result of the band's inability to advance his career in music.

Chamberlin returned to the band as a touring member for the 2015 End Times Tour. Chamberlin remained in the touring lineup for the upcoming "In Plainsong" Tour in 2016.

In February 2018, Chamberlin and former guitarist James Iha returned to a permanent basis, and the band embarked on their reunion tour, the Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour, and revealed an album at the end of 2018. Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. No Past, No Following. There is no such thing as a future. No Sun. In the reunited lineup at the end of 2020, Iha and Chamberlin decided to debut the album Cyr.
