Jewel Belair Staite (born June 2, 1982) is a Canadian actress.

She is best known for her appearances in Firefly (2002–2003) and its spin-off theatrical film Serenity (2005), as Jennifer Keller on Sci-Fi Channel's science-fiction television series Stargate Atlantis (2007–2009).

In Flash Forward (1996–1997), Staite appeared in Catalina in Space Cases (1996), as "Becca" Fisher, as Raquel Westbrook in the Canadian drama The L.A. Complex (2012) and as Caroline Swift in AMC's crime drama The Killing (2013–2014).

Early life

Staite was born in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada. She modeled as a child and has performed since the age of six. She has claimed that she is of British, Irish, French Canadian, and Iroquois descent. Staite attended Vancouver Film School and worked at the Vancouver Youth Theatre.

Personal life

Matt Anderson, a comedian from 2003 to 2011, was married to actress Staite. She proposed to her boyfriend Charlie Ritchie in May 2015. She revealed she was pregnant with her first child, a boy, later this month. Wilder Cathcart Ritchie's son's birth was announced on December 9, 2015. On July 23, 2016, she married Charlie Ritchie.

Career

Staite began her career as a child actress, appearing in television series such as CBC's Liar, Liar in 1993 (which was later broadcast on CBS in the United States) and ABC's The Only Way Out. Staite appeared in a third-season episode of The X-Files titled "Oubliette" in 1995.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? since appearing on Are You Afraid of the Dark? (1994) In the first season of Nickelodeon science fiction television series Space Cases, Catalina, the ship's engineer, appeared in a television series. This was immediately followed by her appearance as Rebecca "Becca" Fisher on the 1995-1997 Disney Channel series Flash Forward, in which Staite appeared alongside Ben Foster as the co-lead.

She appeared on the FOX Family Channel drama series Higher Ground in 2000. Mummies Alive! She appeared in animated television series Mummies Alive! Sabrina: The Animated Series for DIC Entertainment.

In the short-lived television series Firefly and its sequel 2005 film Serenity, Staite played Kaylee Frye. "Kaylee Speaks: Jewel Staite On Firefly" was her chapter in the book Finding Serenity. Heidi Gotts appeared in the television series Wonderfalls in 2004.

Jennifer Keller played head medical doctor Jennifer Keller in the Stargate SG-1 spinoff "Heroes," making her third actor from the Firefly series to appear in a Stargate Atlantis (the first being Adam Baldwin, the main villain in the tenth season of SG-1), and the second being Morena Baccarin, who appeared as Adria, the main villain in the tenth season of SG-1), and the third to be a recurring role. Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett) was fired by her. In the fifth season of Stargate, her character was shifted from recurring role to a member of the main cast. Ellia, the Wraith child who appeared in the Stargate Atlantis episode "Instinct," before taking on the role as Dr. Keller. Sheldon Wilson's film Mothman, a 2010 Syfy film, also appeared in Mothman, a comedy directed by Sheldon Wilson. Also in 2010, she co-starred in an episode of Warehouse 13 as Sheldon's love interest, and in 2011, she appeared on a scene of Supernatural as a former love interest of Sam.

Staite appeared on The Los Angeles Complex as Raquel Westbrook, a struggling actor, in 2012. On CTV and MuchMusic, as well as on The CW in the United States, the program aired in Canada. She appeared in a recent episode of The Listener. Staite appeared in ten episodes of AMC's The Killing, as Detective Stephen Holder's girlfriend Caroline Swift from 2013–2014.
