Early life
Nigri was born in Reno, Nevada, United States, and grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand, which is her mother's homeland. She later moved to Arizona. Since 2009, Nigri has been cosplaying, with her cosplay of "Sexy Pikachu" that she wore to San Diego Comic-Con International going viral on the internet. Anya Stroud, the game's character, was promoted in 2011 by Gears of War 3 for Microsoft and GameStop.
Career
Nigri won IGN's competition for a model to play Juliet Starling, the protagonist of Suda51's video game Lollipop Chainsaw, in 2012, and was hired as a spokesmodel by Warner Bros. Games. Juliet was on the red carpet at the 2012 Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) East, convention officials, who had received reports that the pink jacket she was wearing was too revealing, begged her to move or step off the floor and limit her presence; Nigri converted into Juliet Starling's regular attire, but she was refused to leave; Kadokawa Games brought her on Lollipop Chainsaw to Japan to attend Akihabara and visit Japanese video game magazines and websites, including Famitsu and Dengeki. Nigri also signed up to market or represent several other publications, including Kill3rCombo's video game Elsword and comic book series Grimm Fairy Tales (for Zenescope Entertainment) and Knightingail (by Crucidel Productions).
Nigri, who was hired to be a spokesmodel for Amazing Arizona Comic Con 2011, Anime Revolution 2012, Anime Revolution 2012 (including appearing as the convention's mascot Senkaku Mei) and 2013, a guest of honor at Anime South 2013 and Ottawa Pop Expo 2013. She was featured on YouTube channels and shows such as KassemG and The Philip DeFranco Show, as well as in a unique card in the downloadable trading card game Z.
Nigri was approached by Suda51 again in 2013 to play Vivienne Squall from Grasshopper Manufacture's latest video game Killer Is Dead, which she accepted. She was hired by Ubisoft in 2013 to play a female version of Captain Edward Kenway, the protagonist of the video game Assassin's Creed III: Black Flag at Gamescom 2013. She portrayed both Vivienne Squall and Edward Kenway at E3 2013; she also appeared in Tecmo Koei's video game Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, depicting Miss Monday at PAX 2013. In 2014, she cosplayed at the WildStar PAX East booth at Carbine Studios.
Nigri has worked as an interviewer for publications such as GameZone, RUGGED TV, and Comic Book Therapy. She has appeared in a number of commercial video ads and music videos as well as charity work. Nigri, besides being on the PDS for many years, is a fan of DeFranco, and she has had her products on display in his store ForHumanPeoples. Please note that Nigri opened her own online poster shop named Nigri please! Nigri is "not just a cosplayer but also a huge gamer," she says, although she claims she has played video games since her youth, beginning at the age of seven and being first introduced to them by her parent.
Nigri has been involved with the XX Girls and Kat Gunn's professional gaming and cosplay team, Less Than 3 (LT3), which is sponsored by Mad Catz. Nigri has also worked with the CHIVE. For a time, Nigri's primary concern has been to dress up as "genderbending" male versions of various male characters. After Nigri declined to appear on the controversial 2013 reality show Heroes of Cosplay, the Syfy network's producers produced what seemed to be a fierce rivalry and dislike between her and the show's star Yaya Han in order to make the show more dramatic; the two actors later appeared together to confirm that they are not really friends in real life, and that not necessarily a realistic representation of cosplay subculture. Nigri said she intends to move away from modeling and into research and seek a career in the "behind the scenes" of marketing and advertising.
