BRIAN VINER's review: A believable Marilyn Monroe... and some brutal truths laid bare

MAYBE VINER: As a twentieth-century icon whose name is still subject to rumour, gossip, and intrigue, British VINER is arguably Diana, Princess of Wales, is perhaps the only one who has a candle in the wind to Marilyn Monroe as a twentieth-century icon whose fame, fame, and admiration are still subjected to rumour, gossip, and intrigue. When they died, they were both 36 years old. Judging by the commotion surrounding Blonde, the opulent Netflix film that spans for the best part of three hours, the enduring fascination may be growing. The film is a recreation of Joyce Carol Oates' book, a fictionalized account of Monroe's life, which ran to more than 700 pages. I read it once on holiday but wanted another holiday after finishing it. It had been a long road to get to the beach. So, the film is in many ways the film is the best representation. Andrew Dominik wrote The Assassination Of Jesse James (2006), which was applauded by some but left others scratching their heads. He works in a brand of whimsy that is given a full throttle in Blonde, yet I loved it more than I expected.
