Jes Macallan (born August 9, 1982) is an American actress.
She is best known for her role as Josslyn Carver in ABC drama series Mistresses and Ava Sharpe in The CW superhero comedy-drama Legends of Tomorrow.
Early life
Macallan's artistic journey in the performing arts started early as she began dancing at the age of three. She studied classically into her 20’s, with a rigorous syllabus including modern, jazz, ballet, pointe, tap, and musical theater, with a well rounded focus on all forms of dance and expression. Throughout her decades of classical training, she participated in master classes with legends such as Luigi, Mia Michaels, and Eddy Toussaint. She studied endless variations of dance techniques, including those of Fosse, Graham, Ailey, Tharpe, Cunningham, and Balanchine to name a few. While her artistic expression and performance goals were fulfilled on stage though movement, the rigorous training caused early injuries. She made the difficult decision to continue dancing while in college, but not to pursue dance professionally.
She earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration, with a focus on International Marketing from the University of Florida. During her studies she traveled to Europe often, immersing herself in her passions for European culture and language, especially Italian. Her degree includes a study abroad term at the prestigious Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. Although it wasn’t a grand passion, while on her academic path she was grateful to be able to take the opportunity she was offered to model in Miami, New York, and Milan. She later studied acting in Los Angeles, but yearned for a more comprehensive drama program. She relocated to New York City to attend the highly regarded, Meisner intensive acting program at the conservatory-based Maggie Flanigan Studio.
Career
Jes Macallan is an actor and producer who is a proud member of both SAG and the DGA. Her acting career is extensive, with upwards of 130 episodes as a lead in various series and films. Macallan appeared in ABC's hit drama series Legends of Tomorrow (Netflix), which lasted for seven seasons, before her regular appearance in the Arrowverse dramedy superhero show Legends of Tomorrow (Diverse), directed by Alyssa Milano, which lasted for four seasons. In addition to numerous of her other appearances, she appeared in the pilot Crash and Burn executive produced by Tony Hawk, as well as the digital film series Relationship Status, which was also shown at the Tribeca Film Festival with critical distinctions.
She went on to produce two very exciting, VFX/SPFX heavy episodes of DC's Legends of Tomorrow as an episodic producer. Not only did she appear in the series, but she also got used to the new territory of ever-changing on-set pandemic protocols in the filmmaking industry.
Following a recent series wrap on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Macallan went on to direct an episode of All Rise for OWN/Warner Bros Television, which will premiere in 2022.
In retrospect, early on in her acting career, she was keen to pursue her ever-present passion for directing, and she began shadowing veteran directors she admired. She wrote, produced, and directed Self, E, a short film starring a non-existent budget in 2016. The film was accepted and well received after being submitted to a handful of select festivals. A screening of the short at Hollywood's famous TCL Chinese Theater was held at the Dances with Films Festival. Macallan's admission to the Warner Bros. Television Directors Workshop was secured thanks to the film, as well as a cohesive approach. She is a proud graduate of the class of 2019.
Macallan's love for storytelling as a writer (and actor) flourishes with a rich and memorable character driven script. Her performance experience gives her a deep insight into character development on film, which is also true of her role as a filmmaker. Her extensive television experience, both on camera and off, has also given her the ability and benefit of communication, budget analysis, and effective time scheduling.
In the near future, she and her partner, fellow actor Nic Bishop, will be adapting multiple books. They're also procuring multiple projects with talented colleagues and acquaintances of theirs from many years of service in the industry.
