Jerry Adler (born February 4, 1929) is an American theatre designer, producer, and film actor.

He is perhaps best known for his appearances on The Sopranos as Herman "Hesh" Rabkin, as Howard Lyman on The Good Wife.

Early life

Adler was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Pauline and Philip Adler, who was a general manager of the Company Theatre. Jacob Pavlovich Adler, whose children Stella and Luther Adler were his cousins, was his uncle. He was raised in a Yiddish-speaking, observant Jewish household.

Adler began his stage career in 1950, appearing in shows such as Of Thee I Sing and My Fair Lady before being promoted to Production Manager for The Apple Tree, Black Comedy/White Lies, Dear World, Coco, and Many More. Riv Vu, Annie and I Remember Mama were among others. He made his directorial debut with the 1974 Sammy Cahn revue Words and Music, as well as the 1976 revival of My Fair Lady, which earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination, and the 1981 film The Little Prince and the Aviator. Checking Out was also directed by him in 1976.

(which he hopes had some nice tunes); a 1976 Hellzapoppin revival starring Jerry Lewis ("Awful, tragic guy"); and Richard Rodgers' last musical, I Remember Mama.

Adler, a comedian, is perhaps best known for his appearances as Herman "Shesh" Rabkin on The Sopranos, Mr. Wicker on Mad About You, Bob Saget's father Sam Stewart on Raising Dad, Lt. Al Teichler on Hudson Street, and Howard Lyman on Both The Good Wife and The Good Fight. On the Amazon show Transparent, Adler portrayed Moshe Pfefferman, the father of Jeffrey Tambor's character. He appeared on CBS's The Good Fight starring Christine Baranski from 2017 to 2018.

He portrayed Saul Horowitz on Broad City and Hillston on Living with Yourself with Paul Rudd in 2019.
