Rishi election nightmare continues: Tories lose control of more true-blue councils

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 3, 2024
Earlier today, the Prime Minister suffered the indignity of seeing of seeing a Labour mayor win in his own constituency as the party hemorrhaged councils and seats. The Conservatives lost Gloucester, which they had previously held for 20 years, and Dorset to the Liberal Democrats . Lord Ben Houchen's re-election on Teesside was a crumb of comfort as the party lost more than half of its councillors up for re-election across England, just months away from a general election. Labour's David Skaith became the inaugural elected mayor of York and North Yorkshire this afternoon, a new position that covers the Prime Minister's Richmond constituency. It was one of the final blows in a day of reverses for the ruling party, including in many areas the Tories need to win to have any chance in the general election later this year. All eyes now turn to mayoral contests in London and the West Midlands, the results of which will be declared on Saturday.

Universities accused of abandoning Jewish students after 'increasingly hostile rhetoric emanating from encampments in solidarity with Gaza'

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 3, 2024
Universities have been accused of deserting Jewish students over divisive pro-Palestine protests sweeping across the country. Edward Isaacs, president of the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), said campus bosses have been 'unwilling' to be 'allies' to his members and are not making them feel 'included'. He called on vice chancellors to 'muster the moral courage' to 'ensure campuses are places where they can study free from hatred'.

How the 'home of the British Army' turned to Labour after being a Tory stronghold for more than 100 years: Changing face of Aldershot and military decline sees Rushmoor Council go red for the first time EVER

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 3, 2024
The result will send shock waves through the Conservatives in an area which was once a true-Blue Tory heartland where it was unthinkable Labour would win any sort of election. It will raise Labour hopes of taking the Aldershot Westminster seat of Armed Forces Minister Leo Docherty. Aldershot has been a major military base since 1854, but the result comes against a national backdrop of massive cuts to the British Army which has seen it shrink to its smallest size in 200 years.

After officer warns campaigner for being 'openly Jewish'... Met Police are so cowed by the anti-semitic mob, they even cover up the Holocaust

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 27, 2024
Britain's first public memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust was covered up and guarded by Met Police officers to stop pro-Palestinian protestors targeting the monument. Police chiefs have been urged to halt the almost weekly marches through Central London, which critics warn has turned the capital into a 'no-go' area for Jewish people. Holocaust survivor Noemi Ebenstein, 82, described the move as 'shameful'.

RISHI SUNAK: Unlike Sir Keir I'm happy for Britain to lead the world in being tough on migrants, writes the Prime Minister

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 27, 2024
RISHI SUNAK: In the past ten days we have taken decisive action to make sure work always pays, to control our borders and to make us more secure at home and stronger abroad. No one can be in any doubt what my values are. This is a Conservative Government that is delivering for Britain. I want a welfare system that is fair to the taxpayers who have to fund it. I want to stop the boats because it is not right or fair that people can simply arrive on our coast illegally and then get to stay. And I want us to have security in an increasingly dangerous world, so I will back our military so we can stand up for our interests, defend our values and deter our enemies.

Kemi Badenoch says arch-Remainer (and current Cabinet colleague) Lord Cameron is guilty of 'dereliction of duty' for failing to plan for Brexit before 2016 referendum because he hoped it would not happen

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 26, 2024
The Business Secretary criticised the Foreign Secretary for not planning for a Leave win because he was leading the Remain campaign before the seismic plebiscite. In a speech to the CBI last night Ms Badenoch, seen as a leading contender from the Tory Right to become the next party leader, lashed out at her colleague over events that happened before she was even an MP. Mr Cameron, along with Jeremy Corbyn, led the Remain campaign which lost 52 per cent to 48 per cent in June 2016. He resigned as prime minister and left Parliament altogether later that year. But he was brought back as Foreign Secretary by Rishi Sunak in a shock move in November.

Are we heading for ANOTHER EU referendum? Polling guru Sir John Curtice says Britain could face a fresh showdown by 2040 with Labour's voters 'very anti-Brexit'

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 25, 2024
Britain is on track for another referendum on whether to be in the EU, according to a polling guru. Professor Sir John Curtice pointed to the overwhelmingly anti-Brexit views of Labour voters and younger generations as he argued the issue has not been settled. At a think-tank event, Sir John said he 'would not be surprised' if there was a re-run of the ballot by 2040.

Tens of thousands of Britons back calls to make St George's Day a Bank Holiday to 'celebrate English heritage and culture' - with 75,000 signing petition calling for a public holiday every April 23

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
Tens of thousands of Britons are backing a campaign to make St George's Day a bank holiday. Over 76,000 people have now signed the petition demanding English people get the day off on April 23 - every year - to celebrate their heritage. Residents of one of England's most patriotic estates - Kirby in South East London -  are supporting the push to make St George's Day an official bank holiday.

NADINE DORRIES: What other country thinks its national flag is 'racist'?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
Happy St George's Day everyone! I can hear some of you thinking: 'Oh, I didn't know it was.' And of course, you could be forgiven for that - because in England, unlike other parts of the union, we do very little to mark our special day. Quite often, those who do celebrate are mocked, belittled or openly scorned for being patriotic and loyal to the flag of St George. If you are lucky today, your town hall may hoist a flag to mark the event, but it's more likely it will not. You may discover that your local authority has made funds available for a number of cultural celebrations over the year, although they're unlikely to involve England's patron saint.

One in eight Labour voters think St George's Flag is 'racist and divisive and should not be displayed' according to a new poll

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 21, 2024
A study ahead of St George's Day on Tuesday reveals widespread support for the St George's Cross, with almost three-quarters of voters saying it is 'a symbol to represent England and no one should be offended by it'. But it also reveals that Labour voters are 13 times as likely as Conservative supporters to describe it as 'racist and divisive'. Separately, the survey reveals strains on the Union, with Scots and Welsh both saying they feel better represented by their national emblems than the Union Flag. Sir Keir Starmer has made strenuous efforts to rebrand Labour as a patriotic party in the wake of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, when many traditional supporters deserted the party over a perceived lack of patriotism.

ANDREW PIERCE: Will Keir criticism see Mandy back in the wilderness?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 21, 2024
ANDREW PIERCE: As one of the architects of New Labour, the former Cabinet minister Lord Mandelson enjoys an open line to Sir Keir Starmer. The consummate master of political spin and self-styled 'Prince of Darkness', who masterminded Tony Blair's 1997 election victory, was banished to the wilderness during Ed Miliband and Jeremy Corbyn's leadership. But how long will he be back in favour with Starmer? A few weeks ago, he was back in Labour HQ's bad books when he said that 'Starmer needs to shed a few pounds' to boost his popularity. Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting accused Mandelson of 'fat shaming'.

'We didn't know Britain was sitting on a financial tinderbox': Who's to blame for the bond market meltdown that torpedoed her premiership? Everyone, says LIZ TRUSS, in her blistering new memoir

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 14, 2024
After a calm-ish weekend during which I'd invited my team over to Chevening for a barbecue (Chequers was undergoing refurbishment), I was hit with news of turbulence in the Asian markets. There'd been no warning about an excessive market reaction from the Treasury - yet they'd known what would be in the mini-Budget. During the lead-up to the mini-Budget, both the Treasury and Kwasi himself had been talking regularly to Bank of England officials. I'd also laid out the vast majority of our plans in the Conservative leadership campaign.

AMANDA PLATELL: How CAN Meghan give lectures on friendship?

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 13, 2024
Just when we thought it had all gone quiet on the Montecito front, up pops Meghan with her exciting new venture. It's a Netflix series celebrating 'the joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and... ' - wait for it - 'friendship'. This, from a woman who has dumped most of her pre-Harry friends as well as her entire family (apart from mum Doria) while also luring Harry away from his old friends. A woman who has such a reputation for defriending people, there's a verb for it in the Urban Dictionary - being 'Markled'.

DAILY MAIL COMMENT: Starmer stands firm on UK's deterrent

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 12, 2024
DAILY MAIL COMMENT: It's telling that before today no Labour leader had visited the nuclear shipyard at Barrow-in-Furness for more than 30 years. For decades the party has been at best ambivalent towards maintaining our ultimate deterrent, at worst downright hostile. Many of its activists still sit firmly in the latter camp. Less than five years ago, Labour was led by Jeremy Corbyn, who stated publicly that he would never agree to the use of nuclear weapons. His predecessor Ed Miliband wanted only a 'minimum deterrent', hinting that he would cut back our nuclear fleet.

No wonder just a quarter of British Muslims believe the October 7 attacks took place when so many hardliners are allowed to flourish here

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 9, 2024
The Middle East is flooded six months after Hamas' brutal attack on Israel. The death toll in Gaza is increasing, sectarian tensions are worsening, and the violence is nothing short of apocalyptic. The war has also had a major effect in the United Kingdom. Swaths of British Muslims have convulsed, fueling an ugly wave of anti-Semitism as well as boosting fundamentalism's cause.

Wes Streeting, a Labour MP, has sluggishly opposed to Labour's decision to use private healthcare to help the NHS improve if Labour wins the election

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 8, 2024
Wes Streeting, a Labour MP, launched an attack today on'middle-class Lefties' who are opposed to Labour's proposal to use the private sector to help reduce NHS waiting lists. The shadow health minister issued a vehement defense of plans to tap the NHS's "spare capacity" of private hospitals to aid the NHS's post-Covid recovery. Mr Streeting has also warned that Labour will not give over billions of pounds to the NHS without reform, likening 'pouring water to a leaky bucket'. The Labour frontbencher wrote in The Sun: 'The NHS is a service, not a shrine.' It is determined by how well it serves the public rather than how much money we're paying for failure. 'The NHS has a long history.' It's a twentieth century service that hasn't evolved with the times and isn't appropriate for the modern age.' When Mr Streeting recovered kidney cancer, he praised how the 'NHS saved my life' and said he was now 'determined to protect our NHS' if Labour wins general election.

Public services watchdog official is suspended after tweeting 'F*** the Tories', calling Geri Halliwell 'an awful human being' and telling Kirstie Allsopp to 'speak to her Tory buddies'

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 3, 2024
Sinead Cook, a 45-year-old female, was barred from serving as the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales' lead investigator. However, she is facing an inquiry into potential abuses of integrity laws relating to her 'biased' posts. Geri Halliwell (left), 51, has been chastised for a series of tweets blasting former Labour MPs and one praising former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.'

Two men were found on a pro-Palestinian march in London that culminated in another man being arrested on terror charges

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 1, 2024
After a public order assault was allegedly committed at a pro-Palestine march in central London on Saturday, police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying two men. According to figures from the organisers, more than 200,000 protesters in Gaza demanded a ceasefire, with crowds marching from Russell Square to Trafalgar Square. A number of demonstrators were arrested by police officers as they attempted to disrupt the Boat Race, and many of protesters were arrested outside the capital's heart.

According to Sir Keir Starmer, Defence spending must be increased to persuade voters that Labour has invested years to convince them that Labour has invested in Corbyn

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 1, 2024
Sir Keir Starmer (right) has been told that unless Labour has promised to raise defence spending, he will fail to convince voters that Labour has put the Corbyn (inset) years behind it. Lord West of Spithead, one of Labour's leading peers, said it would only be classified as a "proper party" if it promises to increase defense spending in its election manifesto to at least 2 percent of GDP. Sir Keir, the former First Sea Lord and security minister in Gordon Brown's government, begged the Tories on defense, urging him to drown the Tories in defense. The United Kingdom is currently spending around 2.3 percent, equivalent to around £52 billion per year. The Conservative government is refusing to reveal when it will increase this figure to 2.5 percent.

Labour is accused of being 'ashamed' of the Union Flag as backbench MPs warn Sir Keir Starmer over using it too much in election leaflets

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 1, 2024
Leaflets being 'plastered' with Union Flags, according to the party's leader, could alienate ethnic minority voters ahead of this year's election. After voters saw Jeremy Corbyn as lacking in patriotism, Sir Keir has attempted to change the image of the Labour Party. However, MPs are concerned about the Union Flag's continued use. According to The Guardian newspaper, they have stated that this is "completely damaging" in several industries. Since the start of the conflict in Gaza, Labour has been losing seats from minority groups, with Muslim voters in particular dropping away from the party.

More than 23,000 Labour members have resigned from the party in the last two months after controversies over Gaza and green policies, prompting insiders to 'take aback' by the fall

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 31, 2024
Muslims and other supporters have been angered by Sir Keir Starmer's stand on Gaza and dumping his £28 billion eco pledge, according to insiders. According to Labour's National Executive Committee (NEC) estimates, membership dropped to 366,604 at the latest count. In January, the number reached a peak of 532,000 when Jeremy Corbyn was leader. Momentum, a radical left-wing group, told Sir Keir 'is alienating swaths of Labour's main vote,' and that alarm bells should be ringing within the party.
