For the majority of moms, watching their teenage son drive for the first time after passing his driving exam was a traumatic experience. So spare a thought for the mother of 18-year-old Oliver Bearman (pictured) as this evening her son is expected to be the youngest ever British driver to compete in Formula One. Oliver, a whizz-kid, started motor racing as an eight-year-old boy in 2013, but he moved from karts to cars four years ago, winning in the German and Italian F4 championships. Oliver is said to be dating Estelle Oglivy (left), who has 72,000 followers on TikTok.

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2023
Jenson Button wants to see combustion engines reintroduced in Formula One, provided that they can be run on renewable fuels. The sport bid adie to naturally aspirated V8 engines nine years ago and replaced them with 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 power units that are backed by energy recovery systems that the drivers can use. The so-called 'Hybrid Era' in Formula One will enter a new phase in 2026, with vehicles being fuelled by renewable fuels but with a larger percentage of electric power.

POLE POINT: In Italian, there is a term that refers to Ferrari. L'anno prossimo è vince l'anno prossimo, anche quest'anno anno sivince. According to my weary spy in the Scuderia camp, "the winning year is always the next one," an expression of perpetual hope in the face of continuing disappointment.
