For years of unemployment, widows of military personnel who have remarried would receive a one-off compensatory payment worth almost £90,000. The initiative would change old legislation that resulted in eligible partners losing their pensions if they remarried or cohabited between 1973 and 2015. The scheme will award £87,500 to war widows whose spouses' deaths could be attributed to their military service.
