Early life
McAllister was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where she attended Council Rock High School South in Holland, Pennsylvania, about 25 miles north of Philadelphia, on July 9, 1996.
Personal life
McAllister moved from Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, California, in July 2013. McAllister joined With Our Time in September 2014, a nonprofit group that promotes women aged eighteen or greater to vote in the United States.
McAllister came out bisexual in a video titled "addressing your assumptions about me."
Career
McAllister created her YouTube channel jennxpenn on January 15, 2009, but she had no YouTube experience prior to that, but she had previously participated in a channel created for a friend. The channel has since received over 3.5 million viewers, and her internet work has earned her accolades for a Shorty Award and four Teen Choice Awards.
McAllister signed a YouTube affiliate deal with AwesomenessTV in March 2013; she appeared predominantly in skits and segments on YouTube. She appeared in the pilot episode of AwesomenessTV's sketch comedy series of the same name, which premiered on Nickelodeon on July 1, 2013.
On April 20, 2014, she and fellow YouTuber Tyler Ward went on a 16-city North American tour to celebrate 1 million subscribers on YouTube, which took place in May and the entire month of June. McAllister and Fullscreen entered a YouTube management agreement in June 2014.
It was revealed at the 2015 Playlist Live convention that McAllister and fellow YouTuber Lauren Elizabeth Luthringshausen would be cast in a film titled Bad Night. McAllister will play Addie Fixler in the YouTube Red original series Foursome in February 2016. In an interview with TheWrap, she outlined her friendships with the series' cast members, saying, "I grew really close to everybody." It was kind of like a summer camp... so you're really close to these people." The series debuted in March and lasted for four seasons until 2018. At the 6th Annual Streamy Awards, she received the Streamy Award for Best Actress for her appearance.
McAllister appeared in the role of Deanna Hoffman in the Hulu series All Night in 2018, and it ended after one season. She appeared on the first season of the reality-style web show The Reality House, a series influenced by Big Brother, in which many YouTubers vie for $25,000.
