Jeffrey Perry (born August 16, 1955) is an American actor of stage, television, and film.

Personal life
Perry was born in Highland Park, Illinois, where his father was a Highland Park High School tutor. In 1978, he graduated from Illinois State University. Perry was given an honorary doctorate from Illinois State University in 2011 for his contributions to the field of theatre.
Perry was married to actress Laurie Metcalf from 1983 to 1986. In 1983, they had a child together, actress Zoe Perry, but they then divorced. He married Linda Lowy, Grey's Anatomy's casting director, in 1989, with whom he has a daughter, Leah Perry.
Career
Perry is a co-founder of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Gary Sinise and Terry Kinney, a Highland Park High School cafeteria, were the company's founders and later expanded it to a tiny space in the Immaculate Conception Church in Highland Park. Since being a youth company with alumni including John Malkovich, John Mahoney, and Joan Allen, it has developed to a nationally recognized theater company. Perry, along with co-founders Kinney and Sinise, remains an executive artistic director.
Perry moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to pursue film and television work after almost two decades with Steppenwolf. Perry is perhaps best known as the CBS police department inspector Harvey Leek (a devoted Grateful Dead supporter) on the CBS crime drama series Nash Bridges. In the thriller Wild Things (1998), he was a stern overbearer to Kevin Bacon's investigator. His television and film credits include The Human Stain (2003), The Grifters (1991), The Practice (2003), Lost (2005), Raines (2005), and several episodes of Grey's Anatomy (2005) as Meredith Grey's father, Thatcher Grey. In the critically acclaimed television show Prison Break, John Billingsley was substituted by him in the role of Terrence Steadman.
Perry has appeared in multiple stage productions as well. Time of your Life (in San Francisco and Seattle), Grapes of Wrath (Broadway and London), and The Caretaker (Broadway). He appeared in the Tracy Letts' play "Osage County" on Broadway, which originated at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre. He appeared on Broadway in 2012 as Christopher, the cynic father in Tribes by Nina Raine.
