Despite being admitted to the Turkish giants in September, a former Manchester United defender has been barred from Besiktas' squad. The 29-year-old arrived at United in a £30 million contract with LaLiga side Villarreal, but at Old Trafford, he failed to convince. He made 113 appearances for the Red Devils but retired in the 2021-22 season, with the Ivory Coast star spending last season on loan with Marseille before joining Besiktas in the summer.
