As it went into administration today, distraught Wilko shoppers said the beloved chain never recovered from the pandemic. Since the store reopened after lockdown, retailers and people who worked at Wilko said the shelves were often empty. Wilko's upswing has put 12,000 jobs and 400 stores in jeopardy, with distraught shoppers concerned that it will become 'another Woolworths'. PwC has been retained by the Wilkinson family since its establishment in Leicester as a single hardware store since 1930, and it has now been named by PwC to seek out potential buyers. Judith Fox was also alerted that Woolworths stores would be closing 15 years ago. "I have always felt that Wilko and Woolworths had many similarities,' she told MailOnline, "both inexpensive supermarket stores selling a large variety of products that were often impossible to find elsewhere.'
