Early life
Pääkkönen was born in Helsinki, Finland, and the son of actor Seppo Pääkkönen and Virve Havelin. Antti Pääkkönenen's uncle, who is also an actor, is a prolific voice actor. Pääkkönen, a child, was a theater assistant and attended the Kallio Upper Secondary School of Performing Arts in Kallio, Finland. During the 1997-98 school year, Pääkkönen spent a year in Maryland as an exchange student at Baltimore's Owings Mills High School.

Career
Pääkkönen's first film appearance was in The Glory and Misery of Human Life (1988), which was when he was seven years old. In the Finnish television soap opera Salatut elämät (1999–2002), Saku Salin became well-known as Saku Salin.
