He followed many other "coming guys" of the day, such as Dario Franchitti, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Jan Magnussen, into the International Touring Car Championship in 1996, a JAS Engineering entered Alfa Romeo.
He also kept his single-seater hopes alive by competing in a round of the British Formula 2 championship for Fred Goddard Racing. Watt's career went as far as the International Formula 3000 championship in 1997, where he was a consistent front runner and was deemed as one of the best up-andcoming talents in the sport.
In 1997 and 1998, Jason rode for David Sears' Super Nova Racing team, which was based on the Den Bl Avis brand, in deference to his main sponsor.
