Jane Waddington Wyatt (WY-ET; August 12, 1910 – October 20, 2006) was an American actress.
She appeared in several Hollywood films, including Frank Capra's Lost Horizon, but she is perhaps best known for her work as Margaret Anderson, the housewife and mother of Spock, as well as Amanda Grayson, the human mother of Spock's science-fiction television series Star Trek.
Wyatt was a three-time Emmy Award winner.
Early life
Wyatt was born in Campgaw, a suburban in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, on August 12, 1910, and raised in Manhattan. Christopher Billopp Wyatt Jr., her father, was a Wall Street investment banker and a descendant of Staten Island Loyalist Christopher Billopp. Euphemia Van Rensselaer Waddington, her mother, was a descendant of the Schuyler family and a drama critic for the Catholic Church. Both of her parents were Roman Catholic converts. Wyatt had two sisters and a brother.
Education
Wyatt spent time in New York City at Miss Chapin's School, where she appeared as Joan of Arc and Shylock, as well as as Shylock. She stayed at Barnard College for two years. She attended the Berkshire Playhouse in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where she spent six months in various capacities after leaving Barnard.
Personal life
From November 9, 1935, Wyatt married investment broker Edgar Bethune Ward from November 9, 1935, until his death on November 8, 2000. Both the couple married in the late 1920s at Hyde Park, New York, where they were weekend houseguests of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Ward converted to the Catholic faith of his wife later in life. In the 1990s, Wyatt suffered a mild stroke but recovered well. She was in good health for the remainder of her life.
