In "Wednesday," Netflix recruited a Professional Illusionist to bring Thing to Life

Monsters and spirits weren't the only thing lurking in the shadows behind Netflix's morbid horror movie, "Wednesday." Jenna Ortega trod through Nevermore's grounds, unraveling riddles, decoding cyphers, and coming face-to-face with supernatural villains eager to start her demise — an uninhibited being creeping nearby. Crouching on the ground in a head-to-toe VFX suit, professional illusionist and actor Victor Dorobantu scurried alongside Ortega as Thing, a disembodied human hand and long-serving member of the Addams family. Dorobantu can be seen contorting himself into uncomfortable positions to be part of the scenes shot by Tim Burton, Gandja Monteiro, and James Marshall in behind-the-scenes photographs shared by the streaming platform on Nov. 27. When she delivered a macabre on Wednesday, he walked crab-style behind Ortega. In other photographs, he squeezed himself under desk to reach his hand through holes cut specifically for Thing, knelt in the bushes of the gloomy forest, and even submerged himself underwater while filming.
