On Thursday night, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jake Walman got into the March spirit by defeating the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. As players from both teams battled for position in front of the crease, Walman's slapper from just inside the blue line snuck behind Canes netminder Federik Andersen. The Wings are currently seventh in the Atlantic division and unlikely to make the playoffs, but Detroit coach Derek Lalonde praised his players after the victory for their continued focus during a difficult season.
