College career
Alexander was a footballer for Louisville from 2015 to 2017, under head coach Bobby Petrino. He had 77 tackles and seven interceptions during his career. He was selected second-team All-ACC for the 2016 season. After his junior season in 2017, he decided to forego his senior year and go straight for the draft. He decided not to participate in the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl with the rest of the Louisville team due to continuing injuries throughout the season.
Professional career
Alexander announced on December 22, 2017, that he did not complete eligibility and entered the 2018 NFL Draft. He did not play in the TaxSlayer Bowl as a result of his decision. He completed all of the combine and positional drills at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Alexander placed third in the short shuttle, finished fifth in the three-cone drill, and tied for fourth in the broad jump, despite cornerbacks. Alexander appeared at Louisville's pro day on March 29, 2018, but decided to remain on his combine numbers and only did positional drills. Alexander was expected to be a first round pick by NFL draft specialists and scouts at the conclusion of the pre-draft process. Alexander was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round (18th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.
