World's deepest blue hole is discovered in Mexico: Huge abyss extends at least 1,380ft below sea level - and scientists are yet to reach the bottom of it

It's well known that there are black holes outside of our solar system. But equally mysterious features on Earth are blue holes - massive underwater sink holes that can span the length of skyscrapers. Thought to have been formed during the latter ice ages, blue holes are seen as 'ecological hot spots' with an abundance of plant and animal life. Now, scientists have revealed that they've identified the largest blue hole in the world, located in Chetumal Bay off the coast of Mexico (left) and top right. Other shallower deep holes include the Great Blue Hole off the coast of Belize in Central America (bottom right) and China's Dragon Hole blue hole.

Before becoming a rock star, Sting was a tutor. Have any other artists followed this route?

Sting - then known as Gordon Sumner - taught English at St Paul's School, Cramlington, Northumberland, before gaining fame as a rock star. He recalled how one pupil skipped school and put on a booming voice in a phone call to announce his absence in his autobiography Broken Music. The boy erupted: 'Er... It's me mam.' When Mr Sumner asked who was calling, he replied: 'Er, mam.' Ricky Ross, a frontman for Deacon Blue, was an English tutor at St Columba of Iona, Glasgow.

Gary Virgo was enjoying Fury Shoal off the coast of Egypt when his dive partner noticed the predator flying overhead. The oceanic whitetip shark was circling closer and closer before finally closing in and ramming him shortly after. 'He made a beeline for me and then he headbutted me basically,' says Mr Virgo of Peacehaven, East Sussex.' The ability of it pulled me right back into the water - my legs had risen.'

OceanGate Expeditions sub suffered electrical damage and had to be rebuilt BEFORE Titanic dive

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 20, 2023
OceanGate Expeditions launched their dives to the Titanic in 2021 with its submersible Titan, which is at the center of a desperate search after going missing 12,500 feet under the waves. The corporation had intended to use it for a trip to the Titanic in 2018, but it was cancelled after it suffered damage from lightning. In 2019, the trip was postponed once more due to a difficulty in complying with Canadian maritime law limitations on foreign flag vessels. After testing revealed signs of 'cyclic exhaustion' that had decreased the hull's depth rating to 3,000 meters, which was much less than what it needed to get close to the Titanic, the nep.

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. According to a local source on the island, the 22-year-old, from Connecticut, was celebrating her Yale University graduation with her companion on the island when the horrific attack occurred. According to the source, she had signed up to an ocean tour and went snorkeling off the coast of Grace Bay, a tiger shark. The woman's left foot is seen bitten clean off, but she is still in her flipper, according to horrifying photos. Before she was rushed to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, the boat's captain is said to have dived in to rescue her. She then lifted her foot from the water and set it on ice. However, it was too late to reattach after a six-hour wait for an emergency aircraft to fly the woman, who has not been identified explicitly, from a hospital on the island to a Miami hospital.

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 24, 2023
In Chetumal Bay off the coast of Mexico, scientists have discovered the second largest blue hole in the world. In Mayan, it is referred to as "deep water" and has a total depth of 900.2 feet (274.4 meters). Thought to have been established during the second ice age, blue holes are regarded as "ecological hot spots" with an abundance of plant and animal life. Off the coast of China, Taam Ja's deepest blue hole doesn't quite measure up to the world's deepest blue hole (bottom right), which drops to a whopping 987 feet (300.89 meters).
