Jacob Brown Life

Jacob Jennings Brown (May 9, 1775 – February 24, 1828) was an American army officer in the War of 1812.

His successes on the northern border during that war made him a hero.

In 1821, he was appointed Commanding General of the United States Army and held that post until his death.

Early life

Born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Jacob Jennings Brown was the son of Samuel and Abi (White) Brown. His middle name was in honor of his paternal grandmother, a descendant of Samuel Jennings and his wife. Jennings had served as deputy governor of West Jersey and later receiver general of Pennsylvania in the early 18th century.

Raised a Quaker, Brown graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1790. He taught school for several years. In 1798, he moved to upstate New York, which was being settled and developed after the sale of thousands of acres of land formerly held by nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. Most had been forced to cede their lands and moved to a major reserve in Upper Canada.

Brown was a pioneer settler and landowner in the Black River country. He and his extended family established mills and a store, laid out roads and improved navigation on the lower Black River, which flowed into Lake Ontario.

LUTON 3-0 WATFORD - DOMINIC HOGAN AT KENILWORTH ROAD: Luton's return to the Championship has not quite gone to plan so far, starting the day in 21st after nine games, but the Hatters' three-game winless run came to an end in the best way possible with a 3-0 M1 Derby win over Watford. Against a febrile backdrop Watford were almost gifted a dream start three minutes in when a nervy Tom Holmes nearly lobbed his own goalkeeper from 35 yards. Luton looked shaken. But it was the Hatters who drew first blood. A firm Holmes volley from a corner went in off Jordan Clark on 11 minutes to wrong-foot Daniel Bachmann. Kenilworth Road erupted.

But for no apparent reason, Jacob Brown, 27, attacked them from behind with a knife. On bodycam footage, Brown can be seen approaching the officers despite not having anything to do with the incident. Brown is seen dressed in black with a hood tightly fastened. At first, he walks down the street near his home, but for no apparent reason, he suddenly jumps into the road to attack the officers.

We'll do it for Kieran: Scotland midfielder McLean vows to secure qualification for injury-hit team-mate

KENNY McLEAN insists Scotland plan to secure a place in the last 16 of Euro 2024 for devastated team-mate Kieran Tierney. The Arsenal defender became the latest addition to Steve Clarke's lengthy list of casualties when he was stretchered off during last night's 1-1 draw with Switzerland with what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury. Lewis Ferguson, Aaron Hickey, Nathan Patterson, Lyndon Dykes, Ben Doak and Jacob Brown were ruled out of Steve Clarke's squad before the flight to Germany.
